I honestly think that if Saban addressed each incident we could find some progress. Like he said don't do that/that's bad/treat people, especially those with differing opinions, with respect.

I also think other Bama fans need to demand more out of their fellow Bama fans. It's not all about them....

For example I was disgusted when I heard that Bama fans were getting their picture taken with Updyke in NOLA before 2011 BCS. Same with the teabagger(although I think his sentence was ridiculous).

If I saw Updyke tomorrow It would take all I had to not go over and ridicule him.

Saban does nothing to quell this crap. If someone as universally respected as he is spent more time ranting about this than students leaving games early, you might see a drop in the idiocy, or at least the violence. And Bama fans, stop it with the "herp derp well he came out out against Updyke and the teabagger!" BS, I'm talking about aggressively nipping this stuff in the bud and giving it more than a passive mention that gets buried as an afterthought.

Also, Bama fans seem to be more concerned with either defending this stuff -- violence aside, obviously -- or passively condemning it than actually acting with the requisite level of condemnation and necessary abhorrence. The teabagger should have gotten the crap beaten out of him in that Krystal by a fellow Bama fan out of sheer decency. You don't laugh about a guy poisoning the oaks at Toomer's Corner, a guy dragging his nuts across a rival fan's face (after a game you fricking won by the way), or an idiot construction worker boasting that he made a rival school's stadium unsafe (however legitimate or not).

I honestly don't think anything will change until Bama starts losing on the regular, or at least sinks below the level they're at now, because I don't remember this level of awful craziness from Bama fans during the Fran and Shula years.

don't really care about the outliers since everyone has them, but our success the last few seasons seems to have brought out more and more of them, so i agree with this ... saban should come and say "quit acting like an arse" ... and i'd probably say something to updick myself ...

I'm sure people have their picture taken with Nick Nolte when he's in public too. I don't think it's because they strive to be like him. I think it's more of a "Here, take my picture with this crazy son of a bitch" thing.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure he got a few high fives from some idiots but I believe the vast majority of Bama fans laugh at Updyke and not with him.
