People have run those stats, and no we don't. USC, Texas, and probably Bama by now are ahead of us.
At one time over a ten year span under Mark Richt UGA ranked #1 in recruiting. My premise is the Dawgs are slipping.
Good point Chris. if he keeps this up, we may lose to the Rambling Wreck an average of TWO times every 14 years.
We'd best change course now...

I agree that Richt has fallen far short of expectations when you look at his resources, but let's not forget that, over that stretch, Georgia has played several national champions in the toughest conference in the country.

What? You mean like having an IPF, random drug tests with the strictest drug policy in the nation, and incompetent bagmen?

1st of all, I have never been a big Richt fan from the start and got hammered by those who worshipped the ground he walked on the 1st 5 seasons or so..this article is more like an offseason filler than a serious article about where the program should be headed..
it doesn't mention the totally horrible school pres who has siphoned funds from the athletic dept..they never deilivered on the promise of an indoor practice field and basically have told Richt on numerous occasions to stuff it, as it were. it doesn't mention the first AD who's penchant for sending the team all over the place instead of concentrating on conference play like the Gators and Tiders were doing. It doesn't mention the fact that Richt felt the need to augment some of teh coaches salaries since, compared to other SEC schools, we were in the bottom half of the conference.
believe me, I wouldn't shed a tear if CMR left for whatever reasons on his own, but the question remains ...WHO WOULD REPLACE HIM?...and that, my co-posters is a scary propostion.

That is it. I mean, look at the dumpster fire in Knoxville.

Our staff is actually in the top 5 in the SEC...we have loosned up the purse strings lately even though McGarity is almost claiming poverty these days in the AD...

My guess is Richt will be HC at UGA as long as he wants to be. Having said that, it would not surprise me to see Richt retire relatively early in his career. At that point I could see Bobo picking up the reigns or even Pruitt if he does a good job as our DC.

Stanford made a smooth transition after their coach left... but if Mark Richt is the one making it go in Athens, I guess you gotta do what you gotta do.

Can't really compare the 2 situations.
For starters, Stanford went 12-1 in Harbaugh's last year so they certainly had talent. Also, they TYPICALLY have one game (oregon) that they really need to get up for every year, plus a few others that may be good. We have 4 or 5 of those every year. Speaking of, let's see how they did there under Shaw:
11- Lost to oregon
12- Beat oregon! Lost to washington and ND
13- Beat oregon! Lost to utah and USC
Also look at what Shaw has done in bowl games, ie, situations where it's generally regarded they are playing an equal team. Loss, win, loss.

Well your 2 scenarios are Stanford or Tennessee, imo & I figure it's all about timing... prolly end up somewhere in the middle like FSU's clusterfck when Bowden was forced out.

If you average the last 15 years of recruiting, UGA prolly ranked #1 overall
This is completely false. I hear it a lot from Tech fans but it's just not true. Don't get me wrong, we've under achieved at times, but a composite recruiting ranking over the past 15 years would probably have us around 5th or 6th.

Yeah man, what I wouldn't give to go back to the goff and Donnan years..
The out come has been the same, sure CMR won an S.E.E.C. But he did it with J.D players

How many Donnan players were on the team in 2005?
How about the other two times Richt finished top 5 after that year (07, 12)?
Richt has his faults, but Donnan is far far worse.

Richt gave bonuses to staff out of his own paycheck and self reported it to ncaa, slap in the face to AD

I know that was the case a while back but don't believe it's happened recently. Our staff was 5th behind LSU,Bama,AU and A&M in 2013. About right IMO...

I was not posting the article to say "Fire Richt". I was posting it because I see that article and can identify to it. I have a client that is from a so called "coaching family" (she's a shamecock), and brought up how rough we are with him and how they know him and are praying for him and that "he's a special person". It's coaching; win the big games or fricking get out. The SEC is a bigger beast than when Ray Goof and Donnan were here. In my job, if I don't close the big deal then they will tell me to get the hell out. Richt has had many chances and I hope he gets it right soon but the door is closing. Like it or not it's the truth. We are rolling our dice on Pruitt and I hope that he delivers. I've had multiple shamecock fans say that Richt has this year or he's gone. I don't believe that because Pruitt would have never left FSU if that was the case. The truth is Richt has two of the best coordinators in the game. It's put up or get out time!

Well the two aren't exactly the same are they? If that was the case then dozens of coaches would be looking for jobs all over the country every year.
