Paging MSU Baseball fans regarding Palmero, Clark, Thigpen and Brantley

Question for all my dear Bulldog fans and I will preface this with the fact that I am very much aware of my Tigers own downfalls with 2 and Q'd at Omaha and the fiasco down at Alex Box against Stony Brook though they were an above average team a couple of years ago. Anyway here is the big question , How in the Sam Hill did ya'll not win at least one National Championship with those 4 studs on the team. Two of the best hitters in Will Clark and Rafael Palmero (Thunder and Lightning) and then Thigpen coming out of the Bull pen and Brantley being one of the best starting aces that I can remember. I just cant figure out how you all didn't at least win one National Championship during those years. Please refresh my memory . TIA.

It's baseball. That's the only answer I can give you. Also, don't forget how stacked all the other teams in that CWS were.

Good point Pivey. Baseball can certainly be a sport based upon who is hot at the time. Guess that really is the best answer.

Believe it was Miami and Texas that got knocked us out. Think there was a line shot hit back our pitcher that may have knocked him in out in the semi's if I'm not mistaken.

Well 1/8 odds stacked up against a sample of 10 say worse than average luck.

Polk teams were mentally weak and didn't respond well to adversity, and he never, ever recruited enough pitching depth to win in Omaha. The first part of this is what let Bertman pass him by and make him his bitch basically.
There's a long excuse about how we were 2-0 in 85 and beating Texas when Gene Morgan(our pitcher) caught one off the foot, was never the same in the game, we lost, and it essentially ended us in Omaha tied for 3rd.
We'll win one under Cohen at some point IMO...Just a different mental approach that I like alot better.

Thanks for the info engie, Klowndawg and pive14. Been a solid college baseball fan since I was a student at LSU eventhough we had nothing under Jack Lamabe when I was in school but I've always enjoyed college baseball. Couldn't remember what exactly happened in that CWS with the Bulldogs but thanks for all the insight. I do believe that you all will win a National Championship with Cohen. Definitely headed in the right direction and believe it will happen. Hopefully, us Tigers will get back and get one with PM. Again thanks to all the input.

Good point about Morgan. We were dominating that game and after Morgan gets hit it goes all downhill. Polk did a great job of establishing us as a baseball power, but his teams always underachieved. At that time in the early 80's we were the baseball team of the SEC. We had the facilities, support, money, etc. Polk never seperated us as he should, and LSU, UF, etc. caught up to us way quicker than they should have. To answer the question we should have won a title with that crew.

I'd take any bet you would like on this one...

I can remember what I was doing when Greg Ellena hit the HR that sent us home. Terribly disappointing.

I was a 12 year old playing a little league baseball game. One of the players dad had it on the radio and would update us between innings. We had just finished and we were walking to our cars. He had it wide open on the radio, and we all just stopped and looked at one another without saying a word. Terribly disappointing.
