For some reason the Ohio St. Scout board has a 5 page thread on UGA...
If you're bored & looking for something to read & wonder what future S. Carolina residents think of UGA... give it a shot....
why does UGA underperform given their local talent?

It's a valid question that has been asked and answered both here and on the SECRANT. The thread actually provides some of the same insight shared on our boards. This comment pretty much shares my sentiment: If they could get a coach that (who) could lock down the state's top 10 prospects every year they would most likely be the dominant team in the SEC.

While the statement is accurate, it's not realistic. I really don't think there's a coach that could lock down the state like that. You can certainly try and have years that are better than others, but the really is no one is going to be able to put borders around Georgia. There's too much talent and too many big name schools nearby with recruiters who are just as good and better.
Kids from Alabama and Louisiana grow up dreaming about going to Alabama or LSU. Kids from Ohio grow up dreaming about going to Ohio State. Kids from Georgia don't think that way growing up. We have so many kids that don't have solid roots here that it doesn't mean as much to them to play for their home state.

The thread makes perfect sense. The only problem unfortunately is they are right about Richt and UGA missed the boat by keeping him around. We'll have that guy until he retires. Our only hope that I see is Peterson killing it at Udub and then coming to UGA or Harbaugh having a big falling out with the niners and coming back to college coaching. As far as coaches go, our ship has sailed, we are stuck gentleman. Mediocrity to follow!

I was born in GA and grew up between GA and SC. Their are tons of kids that grow up wanting to go to UGA. It is one of the best programs in the country by far. Where we have lacked since 1989 is coaching and bad hires!

And we usually get them, if we want them. There's a lot of kids that aren't from Georgia that move here because of Atlanta being the biggest city in the region that have no ties to the state and no deep seated love for UGA. It's just the way it is.

Our coaches need to bitch slap Urban Cryer if they ever see his punk arse in ATL. I love that his OC got stuck for 13 hours in traffic during that storm. That should teach their asses to stay out. Screw Cryer!

UGA underperforms?
I'm pretty sure Georgia would have beaten Ohio State most years of the past decade or so, if they would have played them.

Please, tell us what we should have done instead? Exactly at what point should we have fired him, and why? Also tell me who you're sure we would have gotten that's better? It's not as simple as sitting on your computer and saying "fire richt, hire saban. problem solved"

WG, to answer your question in 2006 when UGA lost to UK and Vandy in the same year and the locals got all pissed. Yea, I would have gambled on Butch Davis, leave the NC throws him under the bus episode out. The guy would have jumped on the job and he did a hell of a job at a bad UNC program. In 2009 we should have gone after Brian Kelly before ND got started, gone after Jim Harbaugh or go after Chris Peterson. All three of those coaches could do more with UGA's resources. I heard tons of rumors of Richt getting the can in 09 and then the GT game saved his arse. As far as now, we let the good ones get away. Sorry to piss off the locals but the whole five yards away 2012 champ game doesn't mean shite. Since 2006 we have no championships to show for. Bottom line.

You're an idiot. I don't have the time right now to explain why, but I will first thing tomorrow.

Ok now I have the time.
You automatically prove the entire world that you dont' have a clue what you're talking about. 2006 was Richt's first "down" year, a year where we still won 9 frickin games with a TFr at QB. At that point, we had won the east 3 times out of 5 years, and won 2 SEC titles out of 5. First of all, to fire someone after all that would be absolute pure insanity. Second of all, there isn't a coach worth a damn with a functioning brain cell that would take the UGA job after our coach got fired under the above circumstances.
Ok, and? You realize just because you offer someone doesn't mean they'll come, right? You can "gamble" on whoever you want, chances are we could still end up with someone else. UF is one of the top 5 jobs in America and they had to settle on a coordinator with no HC experience. Look what that got them.
Are you butch davis? No? Then you don't know that.
In 2009 Richt's win totals per year were as follows: 8, 13, 11, 10, 10, 9, 11, 10. Again, no coach in their right mind would take a job after a coach with that success has just been fired. Fired for averaging over 10 wins per yer.
Ok...and? None of those coaches would take the job. Peterson had turned down plenty of high profile offers to stay at boise, Harbaugh is laughable and kelly likely wouldnt' have come either. We could offer saban too but it doesn't mean he'd come.
