Last year was Florida State's year.

I feel like if Bama can get good QB play we'll be in the mix again but that's a big if. LSU is always strong and the SEC always has a few surprises.
should be...AU has the best team returning. And the only "luck" AU had was in the UGA game, and we flat out shite the bed to even have to rely on luck as we were dominating the shite out of UGA for 80% of that game. The Kick 6 was a personnel thing and we'd score a TD 60% of the time if that happens over and over again.

let me see alabama,LSU and Georgia have new QB's and Auburn is returning theirs and a lot of other players. Auburn should be favored

People remember the luck pass against UGA but forget they were getting their dicks buried in the dirt prior to that
I mean, we did score 28 points in the 2nd half

Favorites, maybe. But Auburn had a charmed season last year, it's doubtful they can duplicate the good fortune they had in the Georgia game and Iron Bowl. Would be surprising if the good fortune didn't shine on a different team instead.

i love how everybody is dismissing a team that made it to the national title game, gonna be a lot of AU wins this year with that attitude
Posted on 5/7/14 at 12:49 pm to Spirit Of Aggieland
I forgot good fortune included blowing a huge lead against UGA only to be down to them because the ref made a dumb call
And most Bama fans will tell you they were likely going to lose in OT

AU gon wreck shite dis year.

I'd have Auburn as the preseason favorite for the West but I don't know if there's much (if any) separation between them and LSU/Alabama in the West. The biggest mysteries to me for ATL/CFP are: 1)Will Florida will field a competent O, 2)can Kiffin develop a QB, 3)Will Mauk be an even better QB than Franklin, 4)Will SCar lose that one game they probably shouldn't (much like LSU), 5)does Ole Miss have the depth to compete for West

Georgia was up 38-37. Instead of batting down a hail mary on 4th down, 2 DBs tipped it up in the air, which resulted in a miracle td
Iron Bowl was up in the air but Auburn definitely had the momentum...So Saban elects to attempt a dumb FG that is run back 100+ yards for a td
Not taking anything away from Auburn, but those are things you cannot expect. Some other team could get a lucky play against Auburn this year...

See gif above. The universe was just making things right.

I know this is popular but I'm not buying it. He was using his best chance to win. Does any HC base their decision on "What if they have a 100+ yard return?" This is like wondering if lightning is going to strike a specific spot. Yes, it can happen, but it rarely does.

I don't think it is unrealistic to say Auburn won't get the same bounces this year.
I also don't think Auburn will need that many bounces this year. In reality we're only talking about one lucky play anyway, and even that was necessary only due to a likely non-TD.
I personally don't expect us to return to the title game, but I do expect to win a lot of games, play very well, and challenge for the SEC title if not win it. We should be better on defense, comparable on offense, and likely more balanced on offense.

We are training with Navy Seals, we worked very hard last year and from all accounts are working harder this year.
You make your own luck.

Could very well be, but it's not consensus.
Auburn has a pretty difficult schedule next year with having to play at UGA and at Bama. Even at Miss St. could be a challenging game if Dak stays healthy. That game should be an interesting one because it falls right after the game against LSU. Possibility of a letdown game?
Could this be the year that Spurrier finally gets his revenge?
On the other hand they have a returning starter at qb and most of their oline returns. They should have good receivers and a good dline. Will their secondary improve? Will their running backs maintain the same level of success?

Hopefully Gus will learn to crush teams when he has them on the ropes like Ole Miss and UGA.

Wasn't the game tied? The FG could have been blocked and returned for a TD. He had more to lose than to gain from the FG attempt. You have to know that Auburn will have someone back deep in that situation. If Bama was losing, then you have to kick it.
But I say it was a bad decision, and it's more evidence of Saban's decline.
