LSU was #6 Tenn. was #10 UGA was #8 Tenn. for the SECCG #15 Va. Tech Sugar Bowl #9 LINK That isn't very strong, is it?
Va Tech's biggest win was against Miami (9-3). Sounds nice. But Miami lost at home to a 6-5 Clemson.
Va Tech was a good, solid win against a team that lost 2 other times. But VaTech also lost to a 5-6 Wolfpack team at home.
Was it a great win?

OU's most notable 2004 OOC opponent was Oregon. This might seem impressive at first glance. But Oregon finished the season 5-6.

So Va. Tech was ranked #9, at the end of the regular season, just because? You are showing ignorance.

I contend that Auburn's in-conference competition outweighed OU's in-conference competition
The in-conference competition for Auburn sucked.
AND the out of conference competition for Auburn sucked.
If you don't get it... that's fine.
2004 was the worst year for the SEC in decades.

The buttsniffer is an idiot. Time to ignore him and move on.

So why the frick didn't UGA win it all?

Va Tech lost to a nobody (NC State 5-6).
Va Tech's biggest win was against Miami who lost to a nobody (Clemson 6-5).
It's one thing to be ranked.
It's another thing to earn it.
The SEC sucked in 2004. None of the teams earned their final rankings. When the best team from the East loses to a 6-6 Notre Dame and the second best team from the West beats Oregon State at home by 1 point in overtime... what have we proven?

Show some data to prove your point. You made the statement. Prove it.

Uhhh. Because we were worse than Tennessee (the team that lost to a 6-6 Notre Dame).
Our biggest win could barely beat Oregon State at home in overtime by 1 point.

I thought the point was of win every game in a season. Did AU do it wrong?
Again, I'd be pissed too if Gene Chizik could pull it off and my coach(es) could not.

LOL
It's all through the thread.
SEC East Division Champs - paper champs
2nd best team in the West - paper thin
3rd best team in the East - no significant wins.
2003 Auburn schedule against OOC competition lost in their only 2 big games.
2005 Auburn schedule against OOC competition lost their only big game.
Paper Tigers.

The best team in the East lost 3 games on the season. Two were against Auburn. Look through every SEC team Auburn played, take away the loss they suffered against Auburn, how much better would their years look?
Posted on 4/7/14 at 9:17 pm to meansonny
2008 Georgia lost to Georgia Tech, who lost to 5-7 Virginia. Clearly, Georgia sucked because of this and this alone.

Wow. You must read at the level of an Auburn grad.
Take away the auburn game... and you have LSU squeaking by Oregon State AT HOME in overtime by 1 point.
Take away the auburn game... and you have Tennessee losing to a 6-6 Notre Dame.
Take away the Auburn game... and you have Va Tech losing to a 7-6 NC State.
Take away the Auburn game... and UGA still has no significant wins.

Yea, because 2003 and 2005 Auburn = 2004 Auburn.
Are you trying to take the cake for dumbass of the year?

Add in the fact that the running game sucked donkey balls, and you are right on.
UGA had 21 rushing TDs in 2008. That's about half of Florida and 11 shy of the SEC West Champ Alabama.

I'm explaining why the entire nation outside the SEC said, "auburn??? Yeah right. Schedule someone good OOC next season and try to win one".
Ironically if you had won against USC (or maybe even GT) in 2003, I think Auburn would have gotten some benefit of the doubt.
But they didn't. And they didn't (as they shouldn't have)
