Well, it wasn't his offense that cost him his job. So there's that.

People give the defense a lot of the credit for Auburn's downturn after 2010, but their offense started sputtering in 2011 as well.

DC at Troy for a couple years then takes over as HC once Blakeney retires.

Was Chiz really ever a defensive whiz? I always thought he was overrated. His only year of allowing less than 200 points was in 2004 at alburn. (147)
By contrast, Kirby Smart is currently on a 5 year streak of allowing less than 200 with a low of 106 in 2011.

Is that Kirby or is it Saban? Maybe the same as Chizik and Tubs.

He consistently had top 10-15 D's when he was DC at UCF. He had great D's at Auburn, but like I said earlier, I think Coach Tub was the reason for that. I think college O's have passed that Tampa style of D bye. I hope Coach Chiz gets another shot. I just am not sure what competent program would hire him as anything but a position coach, at the moment.

It's Saban's defense when they win, but it's Smart's defense when they lose.

Kirby has had more talent to work with than any program in the last 25 years. My nod goes to Chiz.

Wait a minute, if you're going to make excuses for Chiz's D's because of the demands of being a HC, you can't just turn around and give the credit for Bama's great D's to CNS instead of Kirby Smart.
Can't have it both ways.
Can't have it both ways.

When did 200 points allowed become a means of measuring defensive success?

Not just college. Monty Kiffen is the mastermind of the Tampa 2. His defense at Dallas last year was the worst NFL defense I've ever seen.

The 2004 schedule was a joke, too.

That's only 2 TDs a game average if you end up playing 14. Not bad. Especially with the rules favoring offense these days.

You can't be serious. Auburn played more teams that were rated in the top 10, when the game was played, than USCw and Okl. played top 25 teams combined.

quote:Pretty much this. The version Chiz runs is pretty outdated for these new college offenses. He would have to adapt his scheme to better fit the current offenses.
The Tampa-2 is archaic in modern college football.

You gotta be pretty dense if you don't realize that points allowed is a huge defensive stat.

During the regular season? Which teams were those?
Please share with me. You might want to include those teams final record as well.
I'll go ahead and remind you that your OOC schedule was UL-Monroe, Citadel, and La-Tech.

Ironically, if Bama had been halfway decent (7-9 wins) in 2004, it might have given Auburn a bump in the final BCS poll. Enough to put them over Oklahoma.

Was an 11 game schedule back then.

You were the one making that idiotic statement. You do the leg work. Try google.
