But yet, the title of your thread says college towns in the "SEC." If you are going to include college towns in the Southeastern US then you should probably also include Clemson, Tallahassee, Chapel Hill, etc. Also, since you seem to be geographically challenged, Fayetteville, Arkansas is in the NW corner of the state. College Station is further "south" and Columbia, MO is further "east." Just sayin
Haha I'm definitely not graphically challenged. I just went with the original SEC teams before Mizzou and A&m got there. I just like pushin your buttons bro. I've never been to college station or Mizzou so I can't say anything about those towns. The only thing I think of when it comes to A&m is Johnny Football. And the only thing I think of with Mizzou is the first gay guy to go into the NFL draft.

So you're saying that Baton Rouge is a shitty place...right
Believe me, I'm not trying to consider Baton Rouge a bustling metropolis by any means

I don't think it's my list they' disliked it for. Half are prolly pissed because I ragged on Mizzouand AnM, and the other half has prolly seen a kid post this same topic 50 times. I just joined this website and this was my first topic. It really doesn't matter if a hundred ppl hate it, I got 7 ppl who like it, and I'm good with that.

Someone have a bad trip to Oxford this year?
No the trip was fun. Y'all have a nice campus. Even looking into transferring there possibly.
But outside of the campus there is literally nothing. Honestly didn't seem like a college town to me. Few good restaurants we tried.
I'd go back for a game. Might head up there for the baseball series.

Baton Rouge is a shitty midsize city with big city problems. The only thing Baton Rouge has on any other city/town in the SEC is food. Congrats. Food.
I'm from New Orleans and went to Bama because Baton Rouge is so awful.

1. Athens - great college town, nice areas around for night life, food, shopping, small town feel in a big town, very good tailgating, etc.
2. Baton Rouge - 2nd largest metro area in state.
One of top game-day destinations in the country for tailgating, food, pre-game atmosphere, beautiful campus, loudest stadium, etc.
Very good night life, restaurants, casinos, one of largest malls in South,
Renowned architecture, museums, parks,attractions.
3. Oxford - quintessential college town, fun-loving, great tailgating, old-school feel, great food, wonderful traditions.
4. Tuscaloosa - see #3, but with a larger wider area of attractions, restaurants, etc. Very nice campus, architecture, spirit, tailgating.
5. Auburn - very friendly people, beautiful campus, great tailgating, nice spirit and energy,
tradition, another old school feel.
Not too much difference in the Top 5.
6. Knoxville - beautiful river, tailgating
7. Lexington - very nice stadium area
8. Starkville - open area for tailgating
Never been to College Station, Little Rock, Columbia, Nashville, Gainesville, So Carolina but I'm sure they're all just as good.

I exclude Nashville, Knoxville, and Columbia bec it is not an SEC town. It is a city that happens to have a SEC school in it. Atlanta is not an ACC town but GT is right there in Midtown.

1. Athens
2. Oxford
3. Gainesville
4. Auburn

7 weekends a year it's tolerable!

beautiful campus
Pretty average campus if you've seen even half of the campuses in the SEC.
quote:
loudest stadium
Once upon a time before the rest of college football expanded and upgraded their stadiums while Tiger Stadium stayed rusted out, broken windows, desperate need of power washing, and choked out with asbestos. It's only that cool in your own minds.

Very good night life
Tigerland, Bogies, and the boring downtown don't make this "very good."
quote:
restaurants
Better than most SEC towns.

casinos
It's pretty jank. Does anyone really go anyway?

¿Que? Blue Bayou?
Baton Rouge is the worst.

Nooooooooo, you went to Bama because you're a NOLA Gump-Homer. Nothing more, nothing less.
Yes, there are a few inner city and crack house/gang areas in north Baton Rouge, just like any medium to large city, but not near campus, the majority of crime is in North Baton Rouge.
So Baton Rouge has "food" and nothing else ??????
What rock did you crawl out from under ????
Baton Rouge has a U.S.S. Kidd WWII Battleship Museum on the Mississippi River, the River Center -one of the best entertainment and convention venues in the South, (is hosting the Miss America Pageant this year), beautiful state capital grounds, luxury hotels and casinos, world class golf courses, zoos, and municipal parks, one of largest shopping malls in the South, fantastic Creole and Cajun restaurants, beautiful architecture and museums, not to mention one of the most beautiful college campuses in the country.
You are so full of utter goat plop that it nauseates me. I'm monumentally ashamed to say you are from my hometown. GTF off this board and go jump in a barrell of Tide and Skoal Juice you pathetic POS.

You should definitely come to Oxford for a baseball game. As a student, it's the reason the spring semester is just as awesome as the fall at Ole Miss. Idk how our student section would treat an LSU fan tho hah

7. College Station - Great school. But the campus and town has a corporate park feel to it as you arrive. Northgate is good. Texans know how to build/run a good bar/nightlife. I have heard good things about Bryan but never been. It jsut has an outpost feel to everything. What they are doing to their football stadium is ridiculous - will be the best in the conference. Im already good to admit that.
Quoted for truth.

Your bar scene is honestly one of the worst I've experienced at a major university. The bars themselves aren't bad but there's like one strip mall with two or three that's kind of in the middle of nowhere and then the rest are all scattered around. You can't walk between any of the areas and none of them have that much to offer where you can stick to it and barhop. And there are no cabs. Not having a centralized nightlife area really kills it

One of my best friends is an Ole Miss alumnus and lives in NE Jackson. Been to Oxford with him for football and baseball games. Never had any problems. (Well, a "few" in 2003 :)
