Why is it impossible for folks to travel by plane, like the rest of the civilized world does?
Do people ride their bikes to SEC events?
I'm not trying to be obnoxious; but the entire topic makes me chuckle.
Live a little, SEC. Push yourself out of your 200 mile provincial comfort zone.

If we're assuming everyone is travelling by plane it makes ATL an even more obvious choice. Nashville is a big SWA city too but nowhere on the level of ATL. For nonstop flights it doesn't get much better in the SEC footprint than Atlanta.

Hell, Atlanta is the only hub airport within the SEC footprint except for the non-centrally located hub cities like Miami and Dallas and maybe Charlotte (which is obviously not in an SEC state.)

The answer to both is money.

Driving is cheaper than flying so the more folks that can drive increases the gate. With basketball last min plane flights and getting raped by 2x - 4x hotel rates it is a question of cost.

You clearly do not get the difference between money and attendance numbers.

I really don't understand why people want to change it. The football championship is currently held in the city with the most diverse and strong SEC alumni population in the country. This city also has the biggest airport in the country, making travel as easy as possible for as many people as possible. The current setup has created by far the most successful conference championship game in the country, and to top it off, Atlanta is building a brand new stadium that will be ready in a few years. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Also, as has already been mentioned, if we start rotating it out of Atlanta, the ACC will take the SEC's place and won't let go. We'll never be able to have it there again.

Only , TXAM and MIZZ have to fly to ATL,

All other fan bases are less than 7 hours drive time.
So it is more easy to travel to.

You could feasibly leave NO in the morning and still make It to Atlanta in time for a game.

Avg cost of gas round trip for a single vehicle under $200.
