Texas is a battle between the machine and the tea party. they're running about 60/40 right now power wise.

Believe me, I know. Once you're on the "the good ole boys" shitlist, you're done in the state.

It's almost time for SGA elections, and that's when they'll really flex their muscle.
As far as down in Montgomery; I don't know, nor do I care. I don't live here.

Pretty much. The religious right has made a strong push, but the power brokers have more or less brought them into the fold, though they're just using them for their votes. GOP has a super majority right now and have been making a mockery of democracy the past 2 sessions. It'd be hilarious if it wasn't so sad.

Our legislature is a fricking joke but it's what we deserve when the people in this State vote for people based on their religious beliefs instead of what they can do to make this a better place to live.

I love campaign season in this state. Every TV ad for every candidate includes a clip of the candidate and his/her family leavin or entering a church.

we just finished primaries here in Texas.
I'm extremely pumped to not hear how every other Republican running is not a true conservative but they are and how well rated they are by the NRA on the radio and TV till October.

I also like the whole "Candidate A is a family man who believes and will protect Family Values" which is usually run while said candidate is leaving church in the ad.

Last election cycle a local judge had a mailer that showed how he compared to Obama.
With Alabama, the Holy Rollers see watching society pass their views behind as a relic of yeseteryear. They feel under attack. It's too easy of a button to push not to push it. It's a pity, logical governance could set Alabama up to take better advantage of the coming economic boom to the southeast.
That's not a specifically Alabama problem however.

Wow, hadn't read that Equire article in years. Know a lot of the people mentioned in it, a couple very well.

It was a damn shame about Bama Bino's Pizza. Used to get it all the time when I visited my future ex-wife in Tuscaloosa. I remember it being good, then again I was usually drunk.

Yeah, the Visellis are some of the people I know. They are great people, and he took the boycott really hard. He's now a deacon in the Catholic church.
I remember it being good too, but I was just a kid so my palate wasn't that refined. He was literally at EVERY event in town giving pizzas away it seemed like. Domino's had just come to town a year or two before the boycott and I remember how big of a deal it was that they opened in an area that Bama-Bino didn't deliver to.

I was out of school when the boycott happened and they went out of business, but had friends in the Tuscaloosa area that really liked the Viselli's and talked about how great they were for the city.
