For "player safety" each of the schools gets to set their own policy.

I vote yes to a conference wide policy.

I figure only UK and UGA would be for it.

This. It's not even just the policies...it's the fact that we test a LOT and even after Spring Break every year. I love that Richt is a "great guy" and cares about his players, but come on....Why you gotta test so much.

Our lack of a drug policy is how we recruit, so it should be obvious where we stand

I really think they are going to take a "wait and see" approach due to the fact that some states are actually legalizing marijuana so it wouldn't make since.
The question should be, since it is legal in some states like California does the fact that schools have a drug policy against it put them at a disadvantage?
Georgia seems to already be at a disadvantage due to the fact that their drug policy is more stringent.

The honey badger is proof that LSU does test. It's just that he told NFL scouts he failed 10 or so before being dismissed.

So does everyone

Let the schools handle it themselves. We're all big boys and girls... don't want or need yet another authority telling us what to do.

You don't discipline them after they fail then, despite school policy. It's one or the other and I'm not just taking HoneyBadgers word for it.....
We'll see about Bama. They took our TE who was kicked off for excessive drug use....somehow Bama is just gonna make him stop though...

we've kicked off numerous players for failed drug tests. Use google before you talk out of your arse.

Not worth it .... Tired of this subject. Congrats on the great kids that don't smoke. Hopefully we can get some of those soon.

It will be interesting to see what schools do with this policy that are in weed legal states.

I knew Georgia fans would be all up in this thread with their usual moral superiority bullcrap. You can count on it like clockwork

From the link:
I'm pretty sure at A&M you get a two game suspension for the first failed drug test and/or drug arrest. We had multiple starters out for the first two games of this season, and a couple of them were for a failed drug test. Claiborne got suspended for the bowl game for his first drug violation before getting arrested for a noise violation/weed incident a few weeks ago. I'm not sure we have a set policy on what to do on a second violation, nor what counts as a second violation. (For example, Claiborne was only charged with a noise violation, not for the weed in the car. Another player (Golden, also a starter) was charged for that. Does that could as a second drug violation? I don't know.

According to McMurphy, Georgia is one of three SEC schools, along with Kentucky and Mississippi State, that suspends a player for a first violation. Depending on the institution and substance(s) involved in previous violations, either the third or fourth violation involving marijuana will get a student-athlete permanently suspended according to McMurphy and student-athlete handbooks available on each program's website.

According to that link, Mississpi State and Kentucky have the same drug policy as Georgia but you don't see their fans up in this thread.
I knew Georgia fans would be all up in this thread, because Georgia fans look for excuses to explain why they cant win more than any school in the SEC
