your comparison is not similar either

It's actually a pretty good comparison if you will think about it objectively.

No its not at all, it you break it down. its highly flawed from the get go.

response in the other thread

quote:

First off, the defense is allowed to sub at any time.

Second, the defense does not need to be set.

Third there is no rule or part of football that states the defense must be in play in order for the offense to play. in fact the whole point of football is dedicated to trying to catch the defense off guard.

Fourth and most important. What part of the game does the Batter play in baseball? offense of defense

Not really. Baseball is relatively unique in that the defense sets the tempo and starts the play. Whereas in football, the offense controls the tempo of the game and sets the game into motion. Fundamentally they are very different sports and your analogy is weak and small minded.

No. It's not. Here are some key differences for starters:
1. The pitcher is ready before the batter even leaves the dugout. So yes...if the offense was, like the pitcher, already and always lined up, then obviously the offense is at a distinct advantage and the rules would need to accommodate for that. As it is now, the defense has 1 more second than the offense and can still be in motion at the snap...while the offense has to be set.

2. Actually 1. above is all that is needed to fully put this misanalogy to bed.

Its nowhere near the same. It would be the same if the Ump signaled play before the batter was in the box and the pitcher threw. In football a better analogy to what you said would be like the offense snapping the ball before the ref allowing play. Which would be a dead ball play.
