I loved the add. America is a country of immigrants and believe it or not, we don't actually have an official language. Instead of celebrating our diversity, we go ape shite over men, women, and children speaking something other than English (god forbid!). Is there no hope for humanity?

People will complain about anything.

The only 2 languages used in the documents that chartered this country were English and Latin. I feel like we are pretty safe in saying that the language of this country is English. I mean, you can trick yourself into thinking it isn't on a technicality, but then you just kinda make yourself appear ignorant and show how far you can blind yourself from the obvious to prove a point you so want to prove.

I think the point missed by that commercial is that one of the great things about this country is that we all used to assimilate to become what is the American culture. People held on to their customs from their home lands, but not at the expense of being Americans first.
By singing the song, about America, in their native foreign tongues, sends a signal that says you can be an American and not assimilate. Just move here, wear the same clothes and speak the same language and make the everyone else cater to your needs.

You realize that people have spoke non-English languages since the birth of this country? If immigrants want to study here, then yes they should obviously learn English. But there are plenty of people who live and work here without knowing a word of English, and life goes on just fine.

The ad was simply celebrating the diversity of this country. And conservatives love to claim that people migrate from all over the world to live here due to our "freedom ," but yet they get pissed because they speak a different language.
