I have mixed emotions about the commercial. It was well done and I fully understand that we are a nation of immigrants but we also have national cultural/identity that evolved from what was established by very wise founding fathers. It seems to me that our United States have never been less united under the current administration in part due to emphasis on multiculturalism, overbearing political correctness and statism that seems more like dictatorship and less like the socialism that I expected from this administration. Also considering the coincidence with immigration legislation in the works, the commercial would seem to be a not so subtle advocate for amnesty. And to be completely honest, I seriously doubt there are very many immigrants in the U.S. singing "America the Beautiful" in their native languages much less in English. As such I find the commercial rather disingenuous.

Can't disagree with any of that, especially the amnesty part. I know a lot of big companies are supportive of amnesty because they want to be able to (legally) utilize that cheap labor.

I'm stereotyping when i say most people are proud of their heritage? Ok.

The use of the rebel flag was simply to point out the hypocrisy in your argument. Someone that hangs a rebel flag in their house is holding onto something that obviously has meaning for that person.

Language is no different. People choose to hold onto part of their identity because they see meaning in it. Ever see Spanglish?

So let's take an example. A Chinese family moves here. They open a restaurant. The children go to school and learn English. Future generations, thus, will speak English. What about the parents who risked coming here? Odds are they will not become fluent in English. Honest question for u. Why do u care? Why do u feel threatened by the parent's inability to speak English?

If u don't like the Hong Kong example, pick another country. Humans assimilate with those they are most comfortable around, hence the birth of places like china town and little Italy.

And there it is... the not so subtle race card injection when noone was talking about race but about NATIONALISM and UNITY!

I was just in Boston and conducted business in both little Italy and Chinatown in English with US currency that has English and Latin writing....

Pretty sure the Indians were here first and this all happened after a hostile takeover.

This is growing in popularity. Currently illegals pay no taxes yet work in many industries in our country. There are some positive and negative benefits to amnesty and I am not sure how I feel about it myself but I am pretty sure that there are people on both sides of the isle that think amnesty is a good solution.

Why? They leave countries filled with murder and drugs and come here for a future. Many immigrants are absolutely happy to be Americans.

Don't be silly, the point was that Coca-Cola sees in term of $$$ not race, nationalism, or ethnicity.

The U.S. is remarkably stable. Congress and the people who follow politics like a horse race may be polarized, but for the most part people are getting along w/ each other pretty well. This is nothing like the Civil Rights Era, for instance.

Indians came from NW Asia and spent 1000s of years killing each other for land here ...

Then they were conquered because they were not as smart as Europeans...

Why do u care that the parents never became fluent in English? This is typical of a lot of immigrants that come here, even back in the "good ole days." The parents struggle to learn English because they have been speaking something else for their entire lives. Children, on the other hand, assimilate much more quickly due to school.

Where did I imply that I cared that they did not become fluent in English?

The statement was that the parents don't tend to learn English because they haven't been speaking it for most of their lives. I think it's more about laziness than anything, but whatever. The kids are supposed to assimilate and learn English, right?

The commercial had a bunch of kids' voices singing in other languages.
