Tennessee fans, tell me about DE Dewayne Hendrix

He's been committed to Tennessee since October, but he is supposedly visiting Mizzou soon.
I know he has shown renewed interest in Missouri recently. Apparently Mizzou's coaches have continued to recruit him heavily, and now they're trying to swoop in on him.

What's the word on Tennessee boards regarding this kid?

I haven't heard anything to think that we could lose him but that doesn't mean anything.

I spoke tonight with Tennessee commitment Dewayne Hendrix, a Top247 defensive end from O'Fallon (Ill.) High School, and he said he's scheduled to take an official visit to Missouri this weekend. Hendrix said his mother has told him it wouldn't hurt anything for him to spend the weekend visiting the Tigers, and he's going simply to take another look at Missouri and make sure he doesn't see something there that he didn't see the first time he visited. He only has been to Missouri once, for the Tigers' game against South Carolina back in late October — the day before he announced his commitment to UT. Still, Hendrix said he thinks it will "almost be impossible" for Missouri to change his mind about his commitment to the Vols, and he made it clear that he's still pretty firmly committed to Tennessee.
DL, DC, & WR coach will all be with him tomorrow then CBJ has his in home visit with him next week. Add that with his family being from and wanting to play at UT. Can't blame him for going to look around but I would be surprised if he doesn't end up in Knoxville

It would be a pretty big surprise and a big blow if he were to switch.

Somebody made the comment it feels like the Jason Carr and Carl Lawson situation last year. Another team comes in and trys to put up a fight at the last minute, but the comfort level with the school, recruits, and coaches is to much.
The only thing Mizz has going for it is distance from moms house, and even then the rest of the family is in TN. Thanks for the highlights and player profile though

We have the best DL coach in the country and pretty sure his GF is going to Mizzou.
Rarely do kids take OVs this late just because. Would not be surprised if we flip him.

He is a lifelong Tennessee fan and his entire family lives here except his mom.
We have seemingly been in firm control here since about March.

He is visiting Tennessee this weekend. Driving over with 2 of our other commits (Gaulden and Wharton). I would be very surprised if Tennessee lost any in-state guys. We are pretty much in control of the mid-state in this class. All of them are extremely close too. Hurd/Malone/Barnett/Robertson/Gaulden/Wharton etc. Any of them leaving would be a huge surprise imo.
Thomas is the DL we are likely not going to hang on to imo.

She isn't. She's at a school in Missouri, but it's not MU

I would be very surprised

What about Barnett?
I don't see anybody leaving the state that TN wants, from this class atleast. Especially from the Nashville area. The fence is real

“It’s probably going to almost be impossible to change my mind about Tennessee. But I still just want to give them respect. They came out here and saw me, so I want to see what they can show me.”

Missouri defensive line coach Craig Kuligowski and cornerbacks coach Cornell Ford have talked plenty with Hendrix about the Tigers’ disruptive defensive line last season and his chance to earn early playing time there, but he said he sees a similar opportunity for himself at Tennessee.
quote:
“A lot of colleges say that (I could play early), but I know for a fact that I have the opportunity to do that at Tennessee,” Hendrix said. “I mean, I could probably play early at Mizzou, but I’d rather just do it at Tennessee because the depth chart is a lot smaller.”
quote:
Hendrix said the Tigers also have continued to point out to him that they’re closer to his hometown, which is located just east of St. Louis. But he said he’s not worried about geography.
“My parents are moving, anyway, after I finish high school, so that doesn’t even matter,” he said. “They’re definitely moving.”
quote:
Hendrix said Tennessee defensive coordinator John Jancek, defensive line coach Steve Stripling and wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni are scheduled to visit with him Thursday, and Vols head coach Butch Jones is planning to make his in-home visit with Hendrix next week.
“They’ve been worried (about Missouri) a little bit. But, I mean, they know I’m committed to them, so it’s not going to change,” Hendrix said of Tennessee’s coaches.
quote:
“I’ve always had a good relationship with them. I really feel like they’re part of my family now, and I want to just go in there and produce so we can reach our goal, which is to win a national championship,

Of the different players visiting, Hendrix is one of the least likely to flip to Mizzou IMO. Just because he's taking an OV doesn't necessarily mean anything. Otherwise it would mean we would completely blow the scholarship limits if we signed every player taking an OV in the next couple of weeks.

Taking an OV to Mizzou means he has interest in Mizzou IMHO FYI LOL. Also probably helps that the women in his life seem to really like Mizzou.

Do you guys have 5 scholarship DEs? We do. I would hope your depth chart isn't any "smaller"
We shall see. Seems odd a guy so in love with UT would even take another visit, especially to a school he's already visited?
What's this with his family moving? They get a nice new condo in Knoxville and a job at a local bank?
