Lots of threats/talk of danger swirling around about the Russian olympics. Does anyone actually trust the Russian government to keep security tight and protect American citizens??? Sochi's proximity to countries with known terrorist issues isn't very warming either.

I know the athletes have dedicated a lot of time but I wish we could pull out of these Olympics. The fact that we have to have 2 warships off the Sochi coast for emergency evac is concerning.

What does everyone think the blow-back would be if we did not participate?

The US should participate in Sochi as planned. This will provide the military-industrial complex the opportunity to ensure that American citizens are harmed leading the US to engage in another military conflict. Said conflict will save the country from the current dire economic straits.

I dont think we should pull out.I would leave the choice up to each athlete. if they dont feel safe then they can leave. I dont think the terrorist will try shite in Sochi. I believe its a bunch of talk because they know if they pull this in Russia, then the gloves come off. Russia doesn't fight with its hands tied behind its back so whatever country the terrorist happen to come from is likely to look like the surface of the moon.

If the athletes want to be there then let them take the risk.

No, but if an athlete doesn't want to participate, it should be up to them.

Putin won't let ANYTHING happen to the Olympics even if he has to wrestle bombs himself. An attack would make him appear weak. I think the media's just blowing it out of proportion. There were "problems" in London as well and that turned out fine.

If you attack the olympics you're basically picking a fight with the world. That endangers people of almost every nationality. It is a little close to Chechnya for my liking but I don't think any of them are dumb enough to piss off every major military in the world.

There is a very real threat from domestic terrorism at the Sochi Games. That's why Putin has 40,000 soldiers on hand to guard visitors.

There are many Muslim groups, I'm sure, with plans to disrupt the games. My fear is that, because Russia has so many internal enemies and because Sochi will be on a world stage, a spectacular attack on the order of 9/11 will take place. A small nuclear bomb would do the trick.

A little part of me is rooting for the Chechnyans.

They are what we were 240 years ago.

Russia is prickly and hardcore. I think they'll protect us just so their reputation isn't ruined. I trust Putin with this, since he's probably the one man worldwide that you don't frick with.

I don't think I would give a single frick if we did.

I tend to root for the cutest figure skater (regardless of nationality) and the rest IDGAF about. Same goes for the normal Olympics, except substitute gymnast.
