Good win for UK and the SEC

Yep, and UK looks like it's starting to mature into a team. This should help a lot with that.

IF UK's FT shooting doesn't improve

No reason not to, free throws are muscle memory and concentration. Nothing pisses me off more than missed free throws, not boxing out, and not sprinting the floor.

Anyway, good win for UK. Looks like those kids are starting to figure it out. If the listen to Cal, they'll be fine. He catches a lot of shite, but he's a good coach.

If Cal keeps calm they'll be dangerous. He sometimes gets too involved and goes ballistic. When they won it last he let them police themselves, on gameday, and they rolled. But there's not a Terrance Jones type yet emerged. If they find that it's over.

Me too. I was at the UK/Duke ladies game last Sunday and UK would have won that game with better free throw shooting.
It's maddening to me that kids who shoot a basketball every day of their lives aren't 80% free throw shooting as a baseline.
I haven't shot a basketball in 10 years and I bet I could his 7 of 10 without one practice shot.

Cal is a good coach at in game adjustments too, something he doesn't get credit for.

True, but that team also had Lamb and Darius Miller, a senior who played quality minutes. Plus Davis and MKG who was a true leader and refused to lose.
This team doesn't seem to have that guy yet, but Randle could take that role and maybe Young.

I would've chose them way before some teams already in SEC, and/or others now not in, that would be ranked far ahead of them in expansion talk, based upon tv markets/regional border reach/enrollment/school academia/financial coffers/facilities/programs/etc..reasons.

There's one small problem with that: They don't actually have hardly any fans.

That is true. There are more UK fans in Louisville than Louisville fans.

And there are at least as many UK fans enrolled at the University of Louisville as UL fans. That's the really sad part. It has gotten better in recent years but I would venture to say most UL alums are actually UK fans.

Man, you're preaching to the choir on that one. I guess dunk contests and 3's are more important. A good mid range game seems like a relic.

I agree. Everyone talks about Xs and Os. You don't need much of that when you have better athletes. Run a motion offense with a few set plays sprinkled in, and out athlete the other team. Recipe for success for today's game.

It was evident in the 2nd half when Pitino (excellent coach) made adjustments and made a run, Cal did a good job countering that and it showed.

Maybe. I do have friends who are UL fans thru and thru. But I also have friends who graduated from UL and are true blue fans.

I grew up in Louisville and most UL grads I know are UK fans. The thing is its easy for UL to get good attendance in basketball and football because literally 99% of their fan base lives less than 40 minutes away from either venue. So crowds on TV don't accurately reflect how small their fan base really is.

Yep Pitino gets well deserved respect as a hall of fame coach, but with the win today Cal moves to 5-1 against him as UK's coach. Cal deserves a lot more respect than he gets. Combine his last few years at Memphis and his first 3 years at Kentucky there really hasn't been to many better coaches out there.

Great W for the Cats today. Extremely impressed how they were able to handle so much adversity today. Improve the free throw shooting and they become scary good.

Great win Cats, impressive second half by the twins. Corner turned today? Looked like it, lotta toughness on display.

Is the disdain for Pitino like the disdain for Saban with UK fans?

Similar but far more intense. Pitino won an NC at UK. Had Saban won an NC at Auburn instead of LSU, I can't imagine the level of hate in that state. I can completely understand LSU's obsession with Saban. Turncoats are the worst kind of nemeses.

Mizzou over NC State would make it an SEC sweep over the ACC today (counting Uavel as an ACC team). Go Tigers.

I'm taking a wait and see on this. Do I think this was the kind of game and win they needed to understand what is required to win a NCAA tourney? Yes.
Are they there? Probably not, but this was a big step in the process. They still need to develop a killer instinct, don't think that is there yet.

Playing the 2nd half without Randle and still pulling out a win is huge though.
