still not sold. If it weren't for 3 lucky plays, you are sitting at 8-4...

Auburn only had 1 "lucky" play this year and it was vs UGA. The return vs Alabama was designed and called exactly how it was executed.

If you want to call going down the field and scoring(MSU) a lucky play then every team that ever won anything was lucky.
Also if you want to call a returner running by the tacklers luck then every return ever was just luck. Plus the Bama game wouldn't have been over even if we didn't return it for the TD.
As for the lucky play against UGA, UGA was just as lucky to get a free TD from the refs on 4th down on the drive before when Auburn stopped AM short of the goal line. Take away both lucky plays and Auburn still wins.
To the OP I wasn't skeptical about Gus but was about the players after last year and figured it would take at least 2 or 3 years to have a real shot at winning the SEC.

Time for my 2 cents on the "luck" arguments as someone who was at every game. Did Auburn catch some very important and critically timed lucky breaks like the Ricardo Louis catch and Cade Foster having a miserable at best night? Both are terribly bad mistakes by another team, so yeah, they didn't control their own destiny entirely on those plays. HOWEVER, how many plays in a football game can you break down and point out the minute lucky breaks which sum together to create the game in its entirety. I would say that, like some claim about holding, luck has a part in every play on some level. There's a reason most would "rather be lucky than good". Auburn catches the "bad" rap this year of just getting by on luck when they played well enough to win all 3 games (stretching that the drive against MSU and kick return against Bama were luck) and just needed one last gasp to finalize the W.
Now, back to the original and more worthy topic. I'll sign is as skeptical on the season. I thought Gus was a good hire, if not maybe a little bit of a reach on a guy who had only been a 1 year HC at Arkansas State. However, as already stated, the players were a concern. Watching the way they absolutely quit last year was sickening. I'm not sure I'd ever seen any team (see the Vanderbilt sign) EVER play with that little heart, drive, determination, or any semblance of caring. This years team is the exact opposite and may be the most determined team that I have ever seen. I don't want to heap too much praise onto Gus too soon, but if this isn't just a flash in the pan (don't think it is), Auburn could have hit the coaching lottery.

I have money riding on FSU. I think both teams are over rated.

Depends on how you look at it. We're also one bad call on an onside kick from potentially being 12-0.
And oh by the way, we'll be the team in the white jerseys in Pasadena on Jan. 6th

considering where they started 8-4 would have been a damn respectable job! I gotta admit I was lukewarm on the hire but after watching him this year he has a fire I had never seen.

Don't be a pussy. Their drive against us wasn't lucky.
We just flat out got outcoached and outmanned in the final minute of that game.
