I'd like for him to apologize to his victims, and openly and directly to the University,
I'm not sure that he hasnt and you arent either.

I don't personally need to know what he says to his victims. it's between him and them. However, since he is receiving a scholarship, etc. from the University, I'd expect him to publicly apologize and express his full intentions.
He is not coming here as a bright eyed and innocent freshman, he is returning under extreme conditions.
Let's put it this way, if he was your next door neighbor and got into an altercation with one of your family members, you'd at least want him to move away. Then imagine him being invited back to the house next to yours again. How would you feel? How should other neighbors feel? Now, if he comes out offers you a remorseful hand and promises he's changed and won't do it again, then maybe.

From Saturday Down South...
" In March, after Pettway wrote a long letter emphasizing his regret for what he’d done, a judge granted Pettway permission to attend junior college, and he received youthful offender status."
I don't know how "open" a letter to the judge is, especially in view of this statement from his attorney. Granted, it's a typical statement from a lawyer in such situations, but it doesn't help people feel better about him. "Disappointed in the university's decision"??? Seriously? Pardon me if I don't put much stock into an apology written by a guy about to be sentenced by a judge.
