9 in top 20 in a bad year for most of our bigger programs.
Wow.

If Texas doesn't make a home run hire to replace Mack Brown, A&M could easily jump way up on that list

A&M? why you so poor?
Posted on 12/18/13 at 1:01 pm to GeorgeReymond
Texas has it easy and Notre Dame has a fricking year round TV deal. Adjust for TV network deals, and Alabama is the most valuable.

lol @ 14. Of course, this is the same publication that left us off altogether last year.
There are probably 4 or 5 programs in the country that could initiate the type of stadium redevelopment project A&M has underway. That says a lot, even if it's not included in Forbes' calculus.
A&M also received over $300 million more in private donations this year than Texas. Much of that has to do with new Kyle, which seems to be ignored.

Wow. Tenn and USC ranked lower than I would have thought.

Yeah, Forbes just isn't a legit source when pertaining to finances… they should just stick to what they know.

Texas
Team value: $139 million
Revenue: $109 million
Profit: $82 million
The Longhorns generated $34.5 million from ticket sales alone last year. The majority of the remaining revenue came from contributions ($30 million), royalties and sponsorships ($26 million) and distributions from the NCAA and Big 12 ($15 million).

Texas A&M
Team value: $72 million
Revenue: $54 million
Profit: $36 million
The Aggies are the one new team to the list this year. Though the school has claimed Johnny Manziel's Heisman-winning season only netted the school about $20,000, the football team's revenue increased by $9.4 million, or more than 20% over the previous season. That increase may not be entirely due to Manziel - Texas A&M also moved to the SEC and played in the Cotton Bowl - but the freshman quarterback's historic season certainly couldn't have hurt.

Doesn't mean Forbes' work in this regard is beyond reproach.
Leaving A&M out of the top 20 last year was just laughable.

Austin Texas has more money than the whole state of Alabama.

Clever how they count just the football teams and not the entire AD. Those profit margins are crazy-stupid-wrong. Add in the other sports (mandated by title IX) as expenses and you get more realistic numbers.
Profit margin of 75%?!? O rly?

Was using texas an an example, but it goes for A&M too. Not mad; we are NOT turning 66% profit, which is what Forbes is claiming. IIRC we are just breaking even, as is everyone but the top 4-5.

Maybe Forbes knows that A&M is going back to irrelevance soon.
