Why is it so damn hard to apply to Texas A&M?

Well I'm about to send out a wave of applications for graduate school and one of them is to the Bush School at Texas A&M. However A&M is the only I've seen that is so damn difficult because of the applytexas thing. Anyone care to share why all the Texas schools have set up this system? I haven't seen anything else like it and I am applying to schools all across the country.
And before you respond I'm not knocking the school, its actually probably my first choice, but the applytexas followed by the specific stuff needed for the Bush School is headache inducing to say the least.

Sorry, applytexas sucks arse 
I actually filled out my undergrad application by hand and carried it to the admissions office when I was in town, I hated the online system so much

It's simply a result of massive, massive numbers.
It never hurts to give someone at Bush a holler. Let em know who you are. I interview grad students regularly, and I typically remember those w whom I've had some sort of correspondence.

seeing this thread makes me appreciate being old. I think my app to A&M was one page and had my name and hs on it and that was it.
There was an optional essay. I opted out. I literally think I filled it out in 5 minutes
eta: just noticed this is for Bush. Even back then it was a pia. I talked to a bunch of people about Bush right when it opened but they made it too much work

Yeah I filled out my app in like 5 min. It was basic info name address hs etc.
