Why 2014 is going to be so important for us ...

1 - the need to prove the ability to sustain big time yearly success.
That's it. We'll have to do it again when Spurrier retires, but right now everyone is going to focus on the loss of Clowney and Shaw.
Question is, can we, will we, do it again next season?
Open against A&M, Mizzou at home, Auburn at their place, Georgia at home, Clemson at their place, Tennessee at home, Florida at their place.
Maybe the toughest schedule in the country next year.

At least we get some FCS schools to beat up on.
a&m (if JFF leaves) W
ECU W
UGA W
Vandy W
Mizz W
Kent W
Bye W (never lost one yet)
Furman W
Auburn ? (They could be even better next year.)
Tenn W
Bye2 -
UF ? depends on who they get as OC and if it works. I really like having the Bye week before though.
SBU W
Taters W
I feel really good about 10 games, 2 are toss ups. We just need to sweep the division. UF has LSU and Bama, which will take care of them. UGA only has Aub and Mizz has nobdy of relevance in the SECw. So it's critical we sweep the division next year.

Next season is going to be the most important season in our history.
Wait until you see David Williams run the football. And we've got a couple of other things in store as well.

As of right now, I just hope we finally don't drop a game that we should absolutely win. UT this year, Aub 2011, etc.
Excited to see who will win the QB battle. Do yall think Mitch could?

I am betting it will be Nosovitch.

I definitely think one of the backups could win the QB battle. Mitch is supposed to be the heir apparent, but I wouldn't put it past Nosovich (or, even a dark horse like one of the walk-ons) to step up in the off season to stake his claim.
I like Thompson well enough, but I don't think he has what it takes to be the guy... at least not unless he puts in a ton of work in the off season. I just think he floats too many passes and doesn't always make the safe/correct reads. But that's just my opinion.

I agree with both

I'll be shocked if it is not Dylan Thompson.
Spurrier loves Dylan.
Dylan is Wuerfulesgue in a lot of ways. His delivery, his understanding of the game. He's well-liked by his teammates. He and Spurrier share the scriptures.
I think y'all are grossly underestimating Dylan ... but who knows, we shall see.

I think Thompson dwil be the man to beat next year. He's already beaten 3 ranked teams on the road. His career comp % is around 55%, 14 TD's 5 INT's and those stats aren't great, but they're decent seeing that we only used him against ranked teams for the most part.
If he improves his throwing motion and doesn't telegraph his passes so much going forward, he could have a great season.

Pre-Shaw, sure DT would be the man. But Nosovich is as close to Shaw that SOS has. If the receivers can improve their route running and start getting open then I believe DT will be the guy(the pass protection should be as good next year as it was this year IMO).

The only reason I think Nosovitch wins out is because he is taller, heavier and equally fast as shaw. He would be better in the zone read plays. Dylan can run but he doesn't have Shaw level quickness. We'll see if he's learned the playbook and gotten better at reading plays. Remember, this kid broke all of Terelle Pryor's HS records in PA, a state where they live and breathe football.
ETA: By 'this kid' i mean Noso.

This is what the perennial elite programs deal with every year, and we have already dealt with it for a while:
Will USC's passing offense suffer after losing Garcia and Jeffery
Will USC's secondary suffer after losing Gilmore and Allen
Will USC's DL suffer after losing Norwood, Matthews, Ingram, Taylor, etc. etc.
Will USC's passing game suffer after losing Ace
Will USC's secondary suffer after losing Swearinger and Holloman
Will USC's run game suffer after losing Marcus
We've been sustaining the degree of excellence, and while there aren't those blue-chip 5* elite studs out there like a Lattimore or a Clowney every year for us to nab, if anything our overall depth of talent has been improving with every class. The 2015 class has some solid 5* stud candidates that as a class may blow out the water any class we've brought in previously.
We now know how to be a winning team in the SEC, how to be a top-10 ranked program nationally and in the BCS rankings. IMO we're capable of continuing if not improving on the success....

That's my thinking as well. Nosovich gives us the same tools that we have with Shaw only in a slightly bigger package. Him being under center would mean that the offense would have little to no changes going forward. This couldn't be said of Thompson or Mitch.
I think Thompson will be, and definitely should be, penciled in as a starter going into the spring and probably the fall. He has the experience in the program and the system. He has in game experience and has lead the team to wins. But I just don't think he has what it would take for us to continue winning long term without changing the playbook and play style.
But maybe that's what Spurrier wants. And in the end that's all that matters...

I liked what I saw out of Nosovitch in his limited action this year, but Thompson should definitely be the starter going into Spring practice. Hopefully BN and Connor Mitch can give us some stability at the QB position like Thompson gave Shaw over the past two seasons.

Is the nickname Nos going to catch on for Nosovitch? I hope so, and I hope it's b/c he burns defenses with 50 yard QB Draws.

I agree on both points, but from everything I've heard about Mitch has been impressive so it makes me wonder if he'll continue to improve and end up being the starter next year.
I think if Mitch became the starter, it wouldn't be until a couple games into the season, though.

Spurrier has only started one RFr in his entire career coaching if I am not mistaken ... and his name was Danny Wuerfful. As a matter of fact I think DW started his first game against us in '93 maybe, but I could be wrong. I remember being at the game, in The Swamp, for Senior day and Spurrier was booed because it was announced he would be starting the RFr over the senior.

If there's one thing we can all safely assume about Spurrier as a coach... he will play whoever gives us the best chance to win irregardless of year. Period.
