The two statistics that truly matter are points scored and points allowed.

To date (all games played so far this season), Bama and Auburn have the following averages.
Bama Scored – 38.8 Allowed – 10.2
Auburn Scored – 39 Allowed – 22
Against common opponents (LSU, Miss St, Ole Miss, A&M, Arky, Tenn).
Bama Scored – 38.1 Allowed – 12.7
Auburn Scored – 35 Allowed - 26.3
Against the same opponents, bama has allowed an average of 13.6 points less than Auburn (52% less) while scoring 3.1 points more (9%).

Really, this is all that matters.
Points scored and points given up against teams that each other haven't played is moot.

Funny. Auburn could win 3-2 and it would barely change those numbers at all. Would they still be the only statistics that matter?

Sure are a lot of unsolicited arguments by bama fans regarding why they should win the game popping up all over the place.

I like looking at scoring offense and scoring defense against common opponents. I think it is one of the better predictors when there is enough of a sample size.
Other statistics besides scoring offense / defense do also have value as an assessment of strength and predictive value as well.
Alabama certainly looks like the better team by most statistical measurements. One thing stats don't necessarily account for are matchups. Some teams that look worse against other competition can have matchup advantages that can even the playing field somewhat. Not sure if there are particular matchup problems that Auburn creates for Alabama this year, but we'll see. Malzahn is a good coach at creating favorable matchups.

Not trying to convince anyone of anything. Just stating facts. Anything could happen. Who knows, Bama might not come out of the tunnel.. I might wake up in the morning and have a 46" vertical leap too...

Or possibly just discussing a big game. Used to be what sports forum were about, but that seems to be changing.

There is no discussion going on. It's thesis after thesis about why Bama can't lose. Typically, the thorough analysis is reserved for tight matchups, not the blowout being predicted in everyone of these threads.

Sure there is. At least some people have tried, but it usually gets derailed by other people going with the "you scared"" "you're obsessed" cliches. Everyone has to determine for themselves which kind of poster they will be.

Nope, not even a prediction about the outcome of the game in the OP. Merely an observation about stats and stats against common opponents.

Again, not even a prediction in the OP. I actually think the matchup will be tight and would like to discuss it. It's kind of a big game. I may just be scared our Aubsessed or something though.
