quote:
Shaw echoes that SEC Commissioner Mike Slive and the SEC will ask the NCAA rules committee to look at reversing the 15-yard enforced penalty should the player not be ejected for targeting upon review.
"Even our commissioner has serious reservations about the penalty philosophy around targeting fouls when they’re overturned,” Shaw said on the SEC teleconference referring to Mike Slive. “He and I have talked. He’s challenged me, and together we’re going to work with the rules committee to revisit the penalty if a disqualification is overturned for targeting.”
Make it happen Slive. Make it happen.
IDGAF if it's Germans, it needed to be posted again

Good. That is just stupid. And the targeting rule is responsible, IMO, for the jump in knee injuries this year. It's not a well-written rule.

Only in a bureaucratic meeting room would anyone think that its a good idea to keep a 15 yard penalty enforced when a foul never actually occurred; and is supported with video evidence that it never occurred. Simply mind boggling.

the ejection alone is retarded... throw in the "review" and it's quickly become the stupidest penalty in all of organized sports.

dumbest rule ever is the fumble out of bounds that the other teams is rewarded with the ball.
The targeting rule, I am fine with. The ejection part is over the top. The refs know this, so they can "overturn" the ejection. But the rule targeting or horse collar or face mask, etc. is called with no "video review" as to whether that flag should be reviewed. How many times do we see a "pass interference" call when the announcers will say "I didn't see much there to warrant that call."?

The worst rule in college football is making an unrecovered fumble in your opponent's end zone a touchback

Either the REC or the SEC will get this worked out.

This thread gives me hope.
Nice PR move by Slive to lead the way early on this.

Thank god.
The targetting rule as it exists right now is insane.
