Having a discussion with colleague. He thinks 70% of rosters are from in-state kids. I'd say its more like 85%.
What say you?

For the basement teams the percentage will be higher, since they have a hard time recruiting out of state.

I'd agree with your friend
ETA: You mean including non-scholarship? Walk-ons, etc

Depends on the school. Texas A&M would be above 90%, Tennessee might only be like 25%

Idk...you could look that info up fairly easily if you had some spare time.
I would imagine the more talent rich states like UF and UGA will have quite a bit, but 85% seems a bit high. 85 out of 100 kids from in state? That doesnt' seem right. Obviously almost all the walkons and scout teamers will be in state, but still.

Not really. LSU and A&M have probably the highest percentage of instate kids, because that's all they need for the most part.

That's probably one of the more uninformed statements I've ever read on this site.

If you are talking scholarship players, your friend is probably closer (and even he would be too high for some schools). If you are including the walk-ons (who are probably more predominantly in state) then it could be over 70%, but don't really know. I think using the scholarship numbers (the guys who actually play) is a better question, and I would think that number would be closer to 70% or less for most schools.

Traditionally Alabama is near 70 percent. Right now it may not be 50 percent.

He said whole roster. It it was just the 85 scholarship I figured he'd say that, but I assume he's including walk ons and scout team too.

I counted 118 players on our roster page, and 82 of them are from FL. Roughly 70%.

Alabama's last class signed included 8 Alabama players and 18 out of state players I think.

I counted 113 -- and 93 are from Texas.
82% (basement?)
14/20 out-of-state come from SEC states (GA, LA, TN, FL)

I counted 106 players on Alabama's roster page and only 35 were from Alabama (did it quickly, but it either right on or very close).
That's only 33% from Alabama. Surprisingly low to me. That's scholarship and walk-on. OP's friend is probably a lot closer.

Just looked up UGA's roster. 91/126 are from in state, for 72%.

If you go to rolltide.com, the "official" roster there is for 107 player (which includes walk-ons), and only 33 are from the state of Alabama.

Might be, I didn't bother to do any research; just a hip reaction. Don't really care TBH.

I saw an article about this a few months back. A&M and UGA were the highest, iirc

that's crazy low. I know alabama isn't a great state for HS recruiting (at least compared to others in the SEC) and bama can recruit nationally due to their success, but that's still an insanely low number. You'd assume all the walkons and scout teamers would be from in state.
