What is it about the cigar game that upset LSU fans so much?

Underdog AU wins at night in Death Valley in Coach Tubberville's first season at AU and on his birthday. A hand full of players and coaches celebrate with a victory cigar after almost all the fans had left the stadium.
Why does that make LSU fans so mad that they still talk about it almost 15 years later? Is it some sort of sign of disrespect? If so, why is it considered disrespectful?

I'm gonna go to your funeral, stand on the casket and smoke a cigar.

This is how you compare smoking a cigar on a football field?

Sooooooooo... Let's say a bama player whips his stuff out and pisses on your logo at midfield. Not gonna get upset?

Smoking is not permitted inside Tiger Stadium

Plus Auburn ripped off the cigar thing from Bama/Tennessee. Not surprising since they ripped off the Tiger Walk from Ole Miss and the run out through a fire extinguisher from Miami

Didn't think Auburn was the underdog. That said, yeah I guess it was disrespectful. At the time, people really didn't like TT due to his arrogance, and this was just another reason to dislike him. It was just all part of the LSU-AU rivalry that gave us some great and memorable games for over a decade.

I think this applies. Both would occur long after everyone has left and someone else would have to tell you about it, so you could feign anger.

If I were an LSU fan it's not about really what y'all did. The players are young. You can't blame them for doing stuff that young people WILL do.
What's crazy is how the Auburn administration goes along with these types of things. Very few schools would allow their team to do this type of thing.

quote:Well, urinating on a logo is clearly and intentional disrespect. Celebrating a win and coach's birthday together, not so much. Can we just stick with the facts instead of tying to hyberbolize.

It'll bother you as much as the cigar game bothers me. But, I plan on learning how to tap dance before you die so at least your friends and family will be entertained.

by people you mean lsu fans? 1999 was his first year coaching auburn so i'm guessing he did something at ole miss that pissed you guys off. What was it?

Man, LSU fans take cigars pretty seriously. We've had smoking them on their field likened to someone's death and pissing on their logo.
