Final analysis - The Texas A&M offense is exceptional, again. I sense it may even be better than last year. Let's don't overreact to the defense. We are significantly improving with very young players. We will have a tremendously impressive year. Expect great things Aggies!

hell yeah. That was a helluva game yesterday and instead of appreciating that we just went toe to toe with the elite team of this generation, we have a lot of people acting like it's the end of the world. This team and this program is in its ascendency and anyone that isn't seeing that needs to learn to smell the roses.

Ags really loaded up to stop the run, especially early in the game and were determined to force Bama to throw the ball... and boy did they. Think Bama only had 25 rushing through 1 1/2 quarters. They burned our arse with the pass and that really opened up the run for them. The flee flicker caught our secondary cheating to help on the run.... a perfect call. No pressure on AJ at all throughout the game and he was able to throw off his front foot all 4 Qs.
I was amazed at how open Bama receivers were. This was a problem all game long. I expected a dropoff on the run defense but I thought we ought to improve our coverage this year. Secondary has shades of Big XII ineptitude. Scary.
We can outscore everyone left on the schedule including LSU. If we can't get pressure on Mett we are going to have to play completely error free in Baton Rouge to have a chance at an upset.

But seriously, we've got a lot to fix on defense. However, we did a great job of staying in that game. We only dropped 4 ranks for a reason. Lets win out to the LSU game and set up another marquee matchup.

Unlike other coaches on the A&M campus who shall remain nameless, Mark Snyder has already proven that he can maximize the talent he has available. Unfortunately, it looks like certain starters have hit their ceiling and need to move aside.

I wasn't that upset about the loss because it was a great game and our offense was just fun to watch. I think Bayless (i think it was Bayless) hit the nail on the head earlier this year when he said "A&M will win a national championship, but it won't be this year, not with the losses on defense, next year they will win." Once our young players get a little more game experience and maturity we will be ok. I expect to see major improvement by the end of the year.
That said, Clay Honeycutt was solely responsible for two touchdowns (flea-flicker and huge whiff on a receiver near bama sideline)and I wouldn't be surprised if he is benched by the end of the Ole Miss game.

And a whole lot of yards on other plays. I can't even count how many times I saw him a good 3-4 steps behind a receiver in the flats. So many easy yards off him.

He just isn't on the same skill/athleticism level as the other players on the field at this point. Kind of like Jordan Peterson vs. Tech in 2006.

I rewatched the game yesterday and our best defender save Deshazor Everett in the 4th quarter was unquestionably Clay Honeycutt. You can bash him for the mistakes he made early. He certainly made some. But he also made a lot of good plays and I haven't seen one post on any site praising him for them.
If the rest of the defense played as well in the 4th quarter, we would be talking about a miracle comeback. Hell, the fumble we got was because Clay Honeycutt flat willed it. He made an outstanding 1-on-1 stop on Yeldon on first. On 2nd he made the initial hit in the hole that stopped Yeldon dead in his tracks. Jenks cleaned it up and the ball popped out.
I'm really tired of the Clay Honeycutt bashing. He seems to get blame for every mistake that anyone makes. He's not a great player and I wouldn't argue he is. I'd love it if we had someone better. But he was still playing with an enormous amount of heart and determination when virtually everyone else on both sides was wilting in the heat. He should be applauded for that, not constantly bashed by fellow Ags.

you are mindlessly bashing here btw. Devonte Harris was on an island on the flea-flicker and he lost his man. Clay was in the box and had no deep responsibility. If you don't know what you are talking about, you really shouldn't bash our players.

He was directly responsible for 2 touchdowns in the SHSU game as well.

no he wasn't but believe whatever dude. Defense is about 11 guys doing their job. Clay has failed at times but the TD that's hung on him vs SHSU was as much Donnie Bagg's fault as Honeycutt's, which is the case on almost every big play - there are multiple points of failure.

Well, I'm questioning you attacking an Ag and not knowing what you are talking about
That's cover-0. In pass coverage, Honeycutt is responsible for the TE on that side. There is no help over the top which Devante knew (and why he got chewed out after the play for peeking into the backfield)
