$30 million for a 500 seat stadium? Because that is likely all you will need.
That is ridiculous. What are you putting in there?
I went to an Alabama-LSU game this past year and there were as many LSU fans as Alabama fans, it seemed like, and the place was maybe half full - or less.

Yea, a full ride is very rare. LSU was lucky to Raph Rhymes say he would pay the full way, not to waste any scholarship on him. I could be wrong, but I think a quarter scholarship is normal.
I would love to see the number 18-20, but not sure hos feasible that is for most schools.

Didn't expect so many people to be mad that we're spending money on baseball.

You could buy 2 teams with that money.
Seriously...... cool to see y'all getting a new stadium.

Probably, the better guys might get half to 3/4.
I would imagine MLB has a lot to do with this as they can get guys right out HS to put in their farm system vs waiting 3-4 years, full schollys would help colleges get guys to campus.
Of course MLB would have their interests first, the NFL/NBA isn't comparable because they do not have a minor league system like MLB (the NBA-DL doesn't really count).

Alabama Officially Getting a New $30 Million Baseball StadiumToday Alabama's board of trustees approved financing on the proposed new baseball stadium. A few times in the past, we had been teased with proposals only to have funding shot down. However, today the dream of demolishing Sewell-Thomas Stadium and starting over has become a reality We're finally joining the SEC baseball arms race, and I couldn't be more excited. I'm sure a few other Alabama fans on here feel the same... It's good for the SEC as a whole too, the league gets rid of one of the worst facilities and replaces it with a first-class
Waste of money.Putting that much into anything other than football is bad business.

Should have built a new arena for basketball/hockey.

I do like the baseball system, as far as either go pro, or go to college, and stay 3 years(at least).
And I agree, full scholorships would help some players go to college(which would prolly be better for the country too) instead of MLB. 20 Would not allow you to give everyone a full ride, but would help. Considering how many athletic departments still lose money, that is still pushing it, without more money being spent on college baseball by outside sources.

Yeah, the MLB has the deck stacked in their favor as they pay for guys who don't pan out to go to college after the MLB career is done. Several QBs come to mind over the years and most of these guys were "walk-ons" because MLB was footing the bill.
But yes, only a few baseball programs across the country are revenue producing ones and I wouldn't be surprised if an increase in baseball schollys meant an increase of equal amounts to other women's sports as well.

I agree completely. Baseball needs more money from outside sources, so it is possible to increase scholarships. Interest is growing, but we need more. We need more fans in the seats, and more eyeballs on TV to increase TV contracts.

TV is going to increase soon, it shouldn't hurt attendance as baseball is a different sport to watch in person vs on TV. There is so much of the game to watch away from the ball vs football/basketball.
College Baseball also has the problem of competing with other college sports, it starts during the prime of basketball while also having to go against spring football. However, it is all by itself for the post season.

Does that mean the SEC Tournament will be held in Tuscaloosa now?

Well they're technically calling it a "renovation," I guess because it's being built at the same site.
Is this confirmed? I remember some whispers about moving it down to the river which would be sick IMO. Either way, a new facility for any school in the SEC is a win for every team in the SEC.

Yea it's going to be in the same location. The university has other plans for the old Bryce land (by the river). By keeping it where it is, there will be somewhat of a "athletic complex" if you will with the baseball stadium, basketball arena, champions plaza, football building and practice fields all in the same area. Should be really nice with a new ballpark, new champions plaza and the recent facelift to the front of Coleman. They at least made the front of the outside look kinda nice

Yeah, I always though Coleman as a whole was a pretty ho humm complex. I wonder how many years it'll take before they start a plan to replace it
