When is the last time Bama played a HUNH in the heat?

From what I can remember, they haven't in a while, or at least not a team the caliber of ours.
Generally, I think people make way too big of a deal about the heat, and it does get way hot in Ttown, but defending the HUNH in September in Texas is brutal if you are not conditioned.
I am sure they are in shape, but this is one of the few times that I think the heat will play a factor.
If we consistently convert 3rd downs on offense in the first half, the second half might look like a prize fighter who took too many body shots early.
Of course, this requires our defense to get off the field and not let them dominate TOP.

Getting 3 and outs on defense and getting first downs on offense is what we're going to have to do. Last year we did exactly that and jumped out to a 20-0 (thanks Bertolet
) lead before they started clawing back.
I think we absoulutely will use the heat to our advantage. We were able to wear them out early in November last year - mid September is a different animal. Should be fun

Yep. I keep thinking back to that Okie State game in 2011. They just completely gassed our defense in September with their tempo.

One thing not talked about a lot is the speed with which Mike Matthews ran the offense last week. Joeckel slowed it down because he just doesn't have the experience making the reads but Matthews was pushing the tempo to the point that if Manziel had played I think it would have been as fast as it ever was last year.
On another note, was talking to a friend of mine that really understands OL technique, assignments, etc (not an Ag btw), and his comment from the Rice game was: "Mike Matthews is going to be 1st team All-SEC and likely 1st team All-American if he plays like that every week." I knew Sumlin praised him in his presser but I just assumed that was on a curve for a first start.

The game was 20-3 in favor of A&M at the end of the first half.
The defense was gassed by Mike Sherman's shitty playcalling (5 run plays in the 2nd half after averaging almost 8 yards/carry? Really?)

it's also a double edged sword. We need to be productive and not suffer those 3 and outs.
I am starting to have a good feeling about this game, perhapst the Kool Aid is going down a little too smoothly.

Thanks for making me relive that horror over again

You haven't experienced TRUE horror in person (Aggie Football style) unless you were a student when Fran was the coach.
Fortunately, I wasn't, but I got to experience:
Losing to USL when UL-Lafayette was still 1-AA
Going 3 straight games without scoring an offensive touchdown
Getting shut out twice in the same season (37-0 to Nebraska, 24-0 to Sandusky)
Having Oklahoma rip us apart 51-6

I am convinced we don't collapse on ourselves in 2011 if we don't herp derp that game

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.
If it's not hot enough outside I bet Saban has the heat turned on in the indoor facility.

They weren't 1-AA. They have been 1-A/FBS since Division 1 was split in 1978.
A&M is 18-0 vs 1-AA/FCS schools.

They were really 1-A back then? Wow. Here I thought we had lost to a 1-AA school. The loss still hurts, but not as bad as KSU losing to ND State.

I've only been an Aggie fan since around the winning streak in 2010. Ive had it really good

USL was not 1-AA in 96. Actually, they've never been FCS (1-AA) at any point. And we've never lost to an FCS foe
eta: see DR RC beat me to it. That's what I get for starting to reply and only getting back to it 15 minutes later

ACC
Big 8
Big Ten
Ivy
MAC
Missouri Valley
Pac-10
PCAA
SEC
Southern
Southland
Southwest
WAC
here is a list of FBS/1-A conference winners since the division was formed.

the next link gives every FBS schools record vs FCS and has some links to the history of the divisions and how they were formed.

You dont think OSUs tempo had anything to do with that loss? Our guys were literally helpless at the end of the second half.
No doubt Sherman's playcalling facilitated that epic collapse by giving them the ball back, but our defense could not stop them regardless.

Our defense stopped them repeatedly in the first half despite their tempo.
You don't go up 20-3 if you're not stopping anyone.

In the second half, we did not stop them.
Remember, this is the game where all the "conditioning" talk came from for the rest of the 2011 season.
It would be one thing if we gave the ball to a traditional power running team, and its another when you give it back to an offense like Oklahoma State. It broke our defense and we were helpless.
