I love that Stanford plays physical. The Oregon Dline will be the most physical dline in the Pac - 12.

This is part of the problem because one of my favorite metrics is scoring defense and last year this was #1 and #2. LINK

1 Alabama 10.93 (about 11)
2 Notre Dame 12.77 (about 13)

It looked to be a good matchup for a BCS MNC but the numbers are flawed because the schedules are not equal. FWIW, last year Stanford was #11 at 17.21 (about 17) so the bigger issue is Notre Dame playing many "meh" teams while the SEC team that rises to the top may have played several bottom schools but also played more teams at the very top.

Here was Stanford's schedule last year :
San Jose State (10-2 in WAC) W 20–17 = 3 point win against "meh"
Duke (6-6 in ACC) W 50–13 vs "meh" team
Southern Cal (7-5 in PAC) W 21–14 = 7 point win against "meh"
Washington (7-5 in PAC) L 13–17 = 4 point loss to "meh"
Arizona (7-5 in PAC) W 54–48 OT = 6 point win against "meh"
Notre Dame (12-0 as IND) L 13–20 OT = 7 point loss to top team
California (3-9 as PAC) W 21–3 = 18 point win against terrible team
Washington State (3-9 as PAC) W 24–17 = 7 point win against terrible team
Colorado (1-11 as PAC) W 48–0 = shutting out a terrible team
Oregon State (9-3 as PAC) W 27–23 = 4 point win against a decent team
Oregon (11-1 as PAC) W 17–14 OT = 3 point overtime win against a good team
UCLA (9-3 as PAC) W 35–17 = big win followed up by 3pt rematch

UCLA (9-3 as PAC) W 27–24 = 3pt win @ Stanford

Wisconsin (7-5 as B1G) W 20–14 = 6 point win against a "meh" team

If the top 6 SEC schools played that schedule my guess is all of them could have gone undefeated or maybe 1 loss. On the flip side I am willing to bet that if Stanford played the easiest SEC schedule last year they rack up at least 4 losses.
