... let's own it, at least on all the message boards, here's why.

The whole Carolina/USC thing, and I've probably been fighting it longer than anyone else here, is old.

As long as we are winning and kicking arse, who cares.

I once had a disagreement with Mike McGee about the use of the "Cocks" moniker on caps. He got rid of those when we were top ten in merchandise sales every year ... we've not been top ten since.

WTF? No Carolina, no USC, no Cocks? Frick it.

So I am embracing SCAR. It works.

Ironically, the SCAR is manufactured on Clemson Road in Columbia at the FN plant. I've been there, I own one. LINK ]SCAR = SpecOps Combat Assault Rifle

So that's one connection. I know people that work there and they refer to it as the "South Carolina Assault Rifle" because they take a lot of pride in it.

There could be other connotations such as, "Frick with us and be SCARred for life." It's a natural. Just like it was karma for SPURrier to coach where, if you mess with the feathers you get the spurs.

I dunno. I'm just embracing SCAR from this point forward - have been for awhile actually. In my mind we're always gonna be USC (not USCe) and Carolina, but for the purpose of message boards why not SCAR and just be done with it. Take the other away from them.

I don't mind SCAR, and on this forum, the USCe thing doesn't get to me either. If anything it shows me how much we are getting to some of the other teams' fans.

I'm just going to keep fighting the good fight. It will always be USC or Carolina when I type it. If the reader can't denote the meaning from the connotation then they need to work on their reading comprehension.

SCAR just feels wrong every time I type it.

There's a reason why the chant is "U-S-C, GOOOOO COCKS!"....

I only use USC or SC when typing whether it be on this board (or another message board), email, facebook, or whatever. Occasionally I'll use Carolina.

I don't mind when ESPN uses S.Car because people can honestly get the two USCs confused. But when people on here use USCe, it just makes them look stupid because most of the time context clues give it away which one they're talking about. Oh and not to mention, we're on the SECRant. Not PAC12Rant or some national message board.

No thank you.

Show me some official university merchandise with scar on it and I might not be aggravated by it, but i'm still campaigning for a return to USC on the scoreboard on ESPN etc. I remember games in the early 2000s were they had USC instead of scar.

And they definitely still make the Cocks hats

It should just be SC.

Drop the "U" and avoid confusion. SCAR seems too complicated for something so simple.

Honest question here, why do some South Carolina fans get offended by the USCe reference?

Probably bc The University of South Carolina was founded in 1801. 49 years before California became a state which makes us the "real" USC, and by adding e/lite/jr shows a sign of disrespect to many fans.

CarolinaSoCocky gave a great answer, and I agree. Also, other teams/posters use it to be offensive. It's like if they started saying UAe (Bama) and UAw (Arkansas.) We've referred to ourselves as USC or just SC for a long time, so when someone doesn't it could be interpreted as offensive.

Like I wrote before, it doesn't offend me personally, b/c I know that's just what some people are going to do, and they are probably doing it b/c we're in their head, so I let it roll off.

I think it's because they can't come up with something catchy like leghumper, tater, floriduh... etc..

It really doesn't bother me at all, i view as a sign of the other fans insecurities of seeing us on their schedule.

Southern Cal has SC trademarked though and theres an agreement for the schools to share USC.

Thats why the baseball hats caused an issue. They were interpreted as identical to Southern Cal's which also had SC

USCe doesn't bother me. But I've never been a fan of USC. I've always preferred SC. I hate the "we were founded before California was a state" argument because we weren't actually the University of South Carolina when we were founded. 1865 was the year we became USC.

Which is still 15 years before Southern Cal, but you know.

I was referring to message board abbreviations, but I always thought South Carolina had a legit argument as to why we should legally battle for "SC" and win.

Maybe we should push for tUSC? Seems to work to differentiate between the Buckeyes and Pokes (and the Beavers, to an extent...)

USCe hasn't ever bothered me, but I find it funny that people try to use it as a slight. especially on the SECr, where they are obviously talking about us and not Southern Cal. pretty sure the context wouldn't allow for confusion.

you won't be seeing me say SCAR on here, though. I'll just keep saying USC or SC.

I say USC and Carolina all the time irl so I'll say it here, too.
