Headed to Jackson...

Grinders, Rebs, and anyone else familiar with the area...
I'm headed to Jackson for business next week for a couple of days, and then back again in September for about two weeks. I know absolutely nothing about the area, and I'm staying in Ridgeland. I'll be working during the day, but free at night and on my own. Anything I need to go and do/see while I'm there? Some hidden gems I need to know about? Finally, I'll be there on Thursday night for the USC/UNC game; anyone have a recommendation for a pub/sports bar specifically for the game?
Thanks in advance...

Jackson is a fantastic place for good eats. I don't really know where to start with recommendations.
Check out the Old Tavern on George Street for a good bar.
Bulldog is good for a game. Not sure what's popular there now a days. I'm sure there's something better now.
Keifers is my favorite lunch spot.
I don't know what to tell you for dinner spots. Hard to choose.

Best advice is to stay on the outskirts and don't go in Jackson proper.

Cash:
"Well, go on down to Jackson; go ahead and wreck your health.
Go play your hand you big-talkin' man, make a big fool of yourself,
You're goin' to Jackson; go comb your hair!
Honey, I'm gonna snowball Jackson.
See if I care."
But they'll laugh at you in Jackson, and I'll be dancin' on a Pony Keg.
They'll lead you 'round town like a scalded hound,
With your tail tucked between your legs,
You're goin' to Jackson, you big-talkin' man.
And I'll be waitin' in Jackson, behind my Jaypan Fan,

I would recommend body armor and some sort of assault/military grade weaponry.

I'm well-armed. That's not an issue.
So, the general consensus is that Jackson isn't much different from Kinshasa or Johannesburg?
Good talk. Thanks, guys!

Go to the Mississippi College School of Law campus and tell them how the market for lawyers is oversaturated and their law degree earned with poor lsat scores and extortionate tuition is not going to get them a job.

There is a place in Ridgeland called Ely's. If you want to spend some money on dinner, go here and get a steak. Best steak in central MS.

I'd try Mint or Julip. Renaissance Mall is a nice newer mall with restaurants.
The Bulldog is a good place to hang.

Nick's is my favorite restaurant. Walker's Drive-in is awesome.

I've never been there, but Char in Jackson was probably the best steak I've ever had at a restaurant.
