I prefer to read professional football coach's opinions. He is receiving lavish praise from the Cardinals staff, and will see significant playing time this year.

And might be a starter.

also, TM did play safety once. He started one game at safety and forced 2 turnovers and probably lead the team in the tackles that game.

Truth. In 2011. Kentucky game?

ETA: Saw someone else said it was Arky. Thx.

Did you coach and play DB?

Played QB and DB in HS. Walked on at Bama and briefly played slot WR. Coached DB after injury and lack of Mathieu level talent ended my career.

Mathieu is an exceptional play-maker with a knack for the ball. He's not an elite cover guy and anyone who argues otherwise will be proven wrong when you watch him against elite NFL WRs. He will likely not be asked to cover outside WRs often.

he's not an elite nfl cover guy. I dont think anyone would say he is or will be.

As far as college goes, he was elite IMO.

Was trying to get a rise out of him. I took the quote about him running with the 1's and ran with it.

It went beautifully.

I've said multiple times since then that he will get "significant playing time."

Honeybadger don't care.

He had to change positions because he's too short and slow to play CB.

You really have no idea what you're talking about eh? He was Arizona's nickle back until their starting free safety got injured. His versatility and athleticism allowed him to switch to that role without having played there in college:

quote:

One NFL scout told KTAR Arizona rookie DB Tyrann Mathieu is already "pound-for-pound" the Cardinals' best football player. An offensive assistant added that "No. 32 (Mathieu's number) is going to change the team." Per radio personality Ron Wolfley, Mathieu's quick development has been "nothing short of stunning," and he's done it while learning four positions: Outside corner, slot corner, safety, and special teamer. Mathieu is truly a stud, and will make himself impossible for the Cardinals to keep off the field.

Of course not. Nobody has called him Derelle Revis in here.

But Mathieu's numbers in college were outstanding. So outstanding that he is considered top 10 in the SEC BCS era with only 2 years of playing time.

Pretty impressive.

Agreed.

He said could start, so you show a preseason depth chart? Those things never change right?

1. Why was Matthieu moved to Safety in the NFL?
2. Did he play safety in the SEC?

1. Because Arizona has a much greater need at safety than cb.
2. No, but he was/is talented enough to be the best at that position too

Tyrann Mathieu AKA TM7 AKA Honey Badger will be on the field much more than AJ once AJ is drafted.

Wow, so a Saban coached walk-on RB is about to start in the secondary over LSU's heisman finalist?

Sounds about right
