Explanation:
SEC with 5 of top 10
quote:
OVERALL EFFICIENCY
1. Nick Saban 10.01
2. Les Miles 9.33
3. Brian Kelly 3.83
4. Butch Jones 3.30
5. Bill Snyder 3.12
6. David Shaw 3.04
7. Chip Kelly 2.68
8. Bret Bielema 2.35
9. Will Muschamp 2.23
10. Chris Petersen 2.20
Explanation:

The brilliance of Chou's Efficiency Metric lies in its simplicity. To rate the offense and defense separately you just find the quotient of the yards gained or allowed by a team over the total points scored for or against that team and it will give you the efficiency rating. If you want the overall team score, you find both the offensive and defensive ratings and then subtract the offensive rating from the defensive rating, then multiply that number by the team's strength of schedule to get one all-encompassing score.
This works so well because you want your team to have a high number on defense and a low number on offense, therefore when you find the difference between the two it embraces all aspects of the game. If the defense forces a three-and-out, then the punt returner gets some good blocks and has a decent return to give the offense a short field and the offense capitalizes on that opportunity by putting up seven points then that will greatly help your rating because all three phases of the game did their jobs to put points on the board.

Yay, sabermetrics meets football. That won't ruin the sport at all.

Posted on our rivals board.

I've been up early cooking today and got to thinking about the UTjr hire and who they settled for then I went and did a little home work on the hire and came away with this and thought Id share.
Butch Jones the greatest coach to ever coach at the University of Tennessee Jr won 23 games while he was at the University of Cincinnati in 3 seasons, which is impressive right? I mean that comes out to an average of 8-4 per season and lets me honest here UTjr would probably act like that won it all again if they even had a winning season.
But do you think they have realized that of Butch Jr's 23 wins that 3 of the game came against division II schools while 15 of the 20 D1 game wins were to teams with a losing record on the season. So 18 of Butchy's 23 big wins while he was a Bearcat were to losing teams and D2 schools.
Of his 5 big wins (3 game in 2010 with Brian Kelly's players) that weren't losers they were 10-4 Miami of Ohio who beat 4 D2 schools themselves. 7-6 Louisville, 8-5 NCst (2 wins against D2 schools) 7-6 Virginia Tech (1 D2 win) and 8-5 Syracuse)

Look up Les Miles record vs. Top 25, top 10, top 5
I bet it is the best.
Miles is a great coach. He is neck and neck with Saban.
Ill never get the hate for Les. The Bama /LSU situation is a thing of beauty. It takes some ball players over a long stretch to keep that close to Nick.
Bama posters how about a little respect for your opponent on this thread. LSU Bama has been for Natty a long time now and the games have been epic (except - well you know). But that team grinded out a W at Bama.
Two Great teams and 2 great coaches. You cant be that close to Nick and not be good. Even maintaining is hard as hell.

LSU was lucky they got a coach that continually expanded on nick Sabans success

Without question Les deserves that ranking. Look at the time he's been at LSU and what they have done year in, year out.
It's the one game that I'm scared of every year.
Les may make some questionable calls at times but so has every other coach out there. Perfect example on Nick Saban was the TAMU game inside the 5 yd line.

This measures the team and not the coach.

This. The OBC is definitely a top 10 coach in CFB. Also, even though he is a huge douchebag, so is Bobby Petrino.

While Saban was good at LSU , miles took over a 4 loss team in 2005 while the worst natural disaster in LA history was happening.
