Ryan Swope Still Not Cleared for OTAs With Arizona

From ESPN Insider:
As for the reason why he is still suffering from its lingering effects, I can only guess. Are his symptoms the result of a concussion incurred later in the season, of events that happened after the Cotton Bowl, or just the cumulative effect of the injuries that's finally manifested itself in the form of his current symptoms?
As we all know, he's one tough kid. I just hope he's physically able to take the field one day and collect on that 4 year, $2,275,788 deal.
quote:According to NBC, Ryan Swope suffered sustained four concussion during his time at A&M. In 2012, the only concussion that I can recall occurred during the La Tech game where the safety threw in a cheap shot when he was clearly a defenseless receiver.
Most of the time, when an NFL team selects a player in the sixth round of the draft, they're not expecting a whole lot of impact. Many selections at this stage of the draft end up happy to even make the practice squad. However, teams do expect these players to at least be able to take the field for them and try and make the roster. That, sadly, has not been the case in Arizona. Ryan Swope, the wide receiver out of Texas A&M, was not able to take a single snap in OTA's as a result of lingering symptoms from a concussion suffered during his college career. Although the team was aware that Swope had indeed missed time from the injury, they were still surprised that the condition was still lingering this long after the initial incident. Coach Bruce Arians knows all too well of the long-lasting effects that a concussion can have on a player, as he lived through a similar situation with Austin Collie. As for Swope, there's now real doubts as to whether or not he'll be able to suit up at all this season for the Cardinals. "I'm not sure what he can do," Arians said. "I'm not sure what the doctors are going to do at this point. I hope ... because the kid is a great talent, and it would be a shame."

this was the only one that was diagnosed as a concussion. I don't remember anything in the CB either. Concussions add up though. He had one in high school iirc. He had several his first couple of years at A&M and last year I think the only one was the Arky game. I remember them commenting that one reason he came back to A&M was because he was labeled an injury risk because of concussions. And clearly it's why he slid in the draft this year.
But it really does make you wonder how he can still be having effects this long after. I would guess that Sherman would have followed NFL protocol on them. Sumlin I dunno. But you can always tell by a player's reaction when it happens. They don't stand up and celebrate because they don't know where they are. I can't remember a single hit save maybe the last play vs LSU that Swope stayed down this year besides the obvious LT incident. Anyone else remember one?
Anyway, I hope for Swope's sake, he stays healthy. Seeing some of those guys that had multiple concussions later in life is just sad. I hope he can either find a way to play injury free or he hangs them up honestly because it just isn't worth the risk. He'll always be an Aggie legend

Watching the Fox No Huddle yesterday, when this play happened
I was just thinking to myself that playing "fearless" may not be the path to longevity.

quote:This is the only other hit that I could recall as well. He didn't miss a game in 2012, nor was he injured in the Cotton Bowl. He seemed to be no worse for the wear in the Auburn game following that LSU game: 6 catches for 140 yards and 2 touchdowns.
