For example, everyone considers football a sport because of the physicality involved. But what about something, such as Golf? I don't really consider that a sport, as much as I do a game. I mean, a crippled guy was on tour with the elite just a few yrs ago for pete's sake. There are other "sports" I think should just be labeled games. But would be interested in hearing others takes on what specific games/sports yall have an opinion about.

NASCAR isn't a sport or game.

Golf is definitely a sport. Its just on the lower end of the spectrum, not requiring a lot of pure athletic talent - instead focusing on precision and skill. While, on the other end of the spectrum is track requiring pure athleticism and very little skill/precision (for most of the events).

All other sports lie somewhere between the two.

all sports are games but not all games are sports

A sport requires physical exertion. Also, what others have said, your physical performance must be able to effect the performance of your competitors.

Soccer: sport
Football: sport
bowling: game
golf: game
baseball: sport
NASCAR: sport
Magic: the Gathering's Pro Tour: game
competitive eating: game
chess: game
basketball: sport

Sport has to have an offense and defense (even if there's only one player on each side). Athletic games are individual performance matched against another individual performance

How much or how little to determine it? Bowling requires physical exertion to a degree. On the flip side, in baseball, the actual ball is only in play for about 15 minutes total in the course of an average 3 hr game and for the most part, it's just between the pitcher and catcher.

Rowing?
Gymnastics?
Skiing?

Hard to classify those as games.

It's subjective, I guess. I love football, baseball, hockey, and golf... therefore they're sports to me. I like basketball so it is too.

I don't classify cheerleading as a sport unless it's at a competition, but believe me, the training, practice, and intensity is a lot like what it is for what is traditionally classified as a sport. I think of it more as an athletic extracurricular activity, at least the real cheerleading, in school. Not talking about the so called professional cheerleaders.

Eta - it's not a game either.

It's subjective scoring - like dancing or gymnastics

There's no arguing that - some of those gymnasts are beasts.
