It is sad that the SEC will not allow this.
It's a tradition thing. The cities in the South become iconic based on the huge game that is played in it. Everyone equates Sugar Bowl with New Orleans. Everyone equates SECCG with Atlanta. Everyone equates WLOCP with jacksonville. I don't know why people get so offended and put-off by this set-up.
Plus, it makes travel plans easier. I already have my hotel in Jacksonville booked and calendar cleared for late October. Having been to New Orleans for the same game before, I can already make my plans now assuming UGA makes it that way.

How bad is it?
Well, it beats the holy hell out of cyclorama (which isn't saying much) but it is 9200 square feet and 1500 artifacts of Civil War history. I've spent an hour or two in there reading and observing. Worth checking out, I think.

I don't see how
I'm not saying that Atlanta is not a great site. I loved every SECCG that I went to and I saw LSU play there for every title game they were in.
I am just saying that entertaining the idea of having a revolving championship site would at least be fair to the rest of the conference.

IRonically the only major city Ive ever been lost in is New ORleans...and its on a grid.

you need to get out more.
It's not even top 5 for NFL football let alone one of the best overall.
The only thing it has going for it these days is its location.

There is an extreme likelihood the impending argument of this point will lead back to the "dissolve permanent matchups" debate that has been warring across this site for the past week
ETA: But for the sake of said argument possibly not leading down that road, why does that not seem acceptable? Upholding traditions is a huge staple of Southern culture, so why does it not fit in?

Well this argument was not leading down that road but that was clever of you to infer that.
The playing of the SECCG in Atlanta is not a "cultural" tradition. It is not the Atlanta SECCG like the Sugar Bowl is paired with New Orleans, Orange Bowl/Miami, Rose Bowl/Pasadena, etc. I don't think the two are comparable at all.
Look, we are just going to have to agree to disagree. Lunch break is coming to an end. Good day

God no. There is a reason that a super bowl will never be played there again. I can only think of one place that would be worse...
There wasn't a damn thing wrong with the super bowl in jax... I know I point blank discussed this with another AFC south owner and he agreed. It's obvious you weren't there

Superbowls have been held in NOLA, since what, the '70s? That goes back a lot further than 1992.

How is Atlanta a neutral location but NOLA is not?

Never said it was cultural, just that it was a tradition. Never said traditions have to eotic and flavorful.

Yeah it is, just not in the "cultural" or exotic sense that a bowl game is associated with a unique destination. Nobody thinks of the game between UGA and UF as taking place in an exotic locale. Jacksonville is pretty bland as far as river cities go (compared to Savannah, Charleston, New Orleans, etc) but the game is still and always will be associated with Jacksonville. Atlanta has hosted the SECCG for 18 years. That's almost two decades, including the golden age of SEC football we are currently in. It's not going to change and it shouldn't.

Guess so.

The explanation was that Atlanta is 'culturally neutral.' I didn't quite follow that either.

Maybe I'm wrong about that. Maybe it's just the walk from the quarter to the Superdome. I was told to stay in the Quarter if I was going out and to avoid the area around the Superdome at night. Haven't seen it other than driving by on the interstate.

The weather was the problem with Jax and the superbowl mainly. We got unlucky with the weather.
Most folks that complain about Jax and the SB either didn't go to the game or were liberal media members from the NE.

Just a PSA for anyone that will be in New Orleans:
If you're in NOLA, go to the National WWII Museum. If you've been before in years past, go again. The museum is huge now and is continuing to expand. It really is an incredible museum and New Orleans is extremely fortunate to have it.

On average, how diverse do you think the collective SEC fanbase is in NOLA?
Now how diverse do you think it is in Atlanta?
I see just as many Auburn, Bama, Florida, tennessee, LSU, etc. sticker, flags, and license plates driving around Atlanta and the surrounding metro area as I do UGA. Can you really say the same for New Orleans?

My dad went last year on a trip over there and was blown away. I've been meaning to make it back over so I can see for myself
