Who is the Best Coach in the SEC who has not Won a Natty?

First impulse say Richt. However, Bielema might actually have a better track record.
Could be an up-and-comer, but I would like to see the small black wrestler from Houston do more before anointing him. Possibly Franklin - what he has done at Vandy (two years in a row) is extremely impressive.

I will say Richt, due to him being the longest tenured coach in the SEC(that aint easy).
Now in the thread yesterday if I had to choose a coach not named Saban if Miles left, I didn't have Richt, but had Bielama and Franklin(Muschamp top choice).

Bielema does not have a better track record than Richt. Sorry.

How many SEC championships has Richt won? I think Bielema won three big whatever titles.

If Richt was gonna win one, wouldn't he have already done it?
He's certainly had the talent to do it.
With the same players, would another coach and staff had won one there?

He has two. Played for 3 others, losing to eventual national champions in LSU and Bama.
Bielema did a good job at Wisconsin, but he didn't face anywhere near the competition that Richt has at UGA. The Ohio State scandal/probation also played a big part in those conference championships.

That's what kinda gives me pause on him. Short of Bielema he has definitely had the most success. But I sorta think if he hasn't won one by now he is not going to ever.

Yeah, last year's Big Whatever title meant a lot.
When Bielema takes Bama to the wire in Atlanta or wins a SEC title or two, then I'll show him some respect.
Until then, he's just a highly entertaining Tweeter who outkicks his coverage by his own admission. Best coach in the SEC without a natty to his name? Don't outkick your coverage.

Believe me, most UGA fans feel the same way.
However, if we let him go, would we make a realistic hire that could take the program to new heights? I really don't know.
The conference is arguably as strong as its ever been, surrounded by good coaches all around, and we're still winning pretty consistently under CMR. One bad hire could mean not competing for the SEC or being in the national title conversation for a long time.

You could probably get Kirby if you paid enough - he's won three Natties.

so you're saying UGA is on an uncomfortable plateau below Elite, yet above where any other reasonably available coach could take them?

Kirby is a puppet.
No thanks. We've already seen what a Nick Saban disciple is capable of doing to a big name program.

Dave Van Horn, and I'm not a hog fan. Also, you did not specify what sport.

I was shocked I didn't get a ton of "Tim Corbin" answers.

I think you're reaching here.
We've proven in the past where we don't hire the right guy. Goff was an unknown and he was bad. Goff was very successful at Marshall, but we never competed for the SEC as he frequently lost to our main rivals.
Those guys had the same caliber of players that CMR has now, yet they did far less with them. Realistically, I don't know of many coaches that would be able to step in and compete for national championships right away. Plus, Richt's come very close on a number of occasions... just needs some breaks to go his way.
