Word is coming out of the meetings that I posted about yesterday that the new playoff system will be governed by its own poll.
This is somewhat disconcerting given the possibility that the poll could be rigged to prevent more than one SEC team from making the playoffs.
Or not?

Where does the committee come in then? Or are they the ones voting in this poll?

Can we just get to an 8 or 10 team playoff already?

Extremely good chance the new system will quickly show what it really is........and that is worse than the BCS.
The only change that should have been undertaken was:
1.) take the top 4 ranked teams in the BCS
2.) no conditions; the top 4 ranked teams
3.) 1v4; 2v3
4.) then national title game
Instead, we are going to what will be exponentially more biased than what we originally had. When you consolidate power to a committee instead of hundreds and hundreds of voters, you failed.

As long as being a conference champ isn't made into a prerequisite for the playoff, then I don't think a SEC team will get shafted. If that was the case, then Bama wouldn't have made it into the last 2 BCSCGs. Most reasonable people know the strength of the SEC, and I would bet that the committee members will vote that way.

Grant Teaff is pissed...

Current coaches have lost their voice in football’s postseason. The American Football Coaches Association, whose poll comprises one-third of the BCS formula, says it has had no communication with conference commissioners about the playoff selection process.
“When they were trying to get what turned out to be the BCS 15 years ago, the commissioners were begging us to allow our poll to be part of the process,” said Grant Teaff, executive director of the AFCA. “If they need us this time, they’ll probably let us know.”

They've also named the playoffs, this may shock a few...it will be called "College Football Playoffs"

I expect the latest BCS poll will be followed by the playoff committee, unless a key player such as QB or RB is injured late in the season, and there is a very strong, deserving, alternative team.

Been out for awhile. My understanding is the following:
1. The selection committee will be 16-20 members. 1 from each FBS conference, 1 to represent independents (read ND) and 4-8 'experts'.
2. They will have their own poll, made public week by week, beginning mid season ( much like current BCS)
3. There will be no formula. This is key. They can consider all input and opinions, and this would include AP poll, which would not violate the AP lawsuit from 2004. They can consider 'computers' if they so desire.
4. There is no selection criteria or requirement, aside from simply being top 4. Major conference/minor conference...conference champion/non-conference champion...doesn't matter, again there is no formula nor requirements
Basically 16-20 Bubba's in a room deciding who gets in on a billion dollar pie.
over/under on how long before someone gets paid?

"Mike & Mike" right now discussing playoff name - "College Football Playoff" - replacing BCS. Talking about other names thrown out. One of their favorites - "The Second SEC Tourney" ....
