I have been to one meeting and am pleased with how I felt afterwards. No I'm not crazy, but I do deal with my own personal demons. I thought I didn't need it but was surprised to find out how many people attend similar meetings. Anyways just topic starting.

Never been, so no advice here.
Curious though, did you talk about your childhood like in the movies?

I had a friend I used to drink with that we all called the rapist. So if that counts, I guess I used to.

Does your therapist know you're sharing this information on a sports message board?

Screw that stuff. Went to couples counseling with my ex S/O and it was awful. Some feminist who didn't want to listen and made it extremely uncomfortable.

I'm not sharing what I talked about so how is that bad? I went to get perscribed to something for anxiety really.

Not trying to be the yankee whacko here, but go look into some meditation before you get on to the pharmaceuticals.
Maybe there's something wrong, for sure. However, generally it's just stress and something more artificial like the impression of external demands.
Meditate, you can even do it at home. Give it a real effort. Like, seriously.
If that doesn't work, get on the drugs. Just know that the people making the drugs make their money selling them to you because you have a "problem."

Didn't say it was bad. Do y'all talk about your paranoia?

It has helped some of my family members & friends, tremendously. If it helps you deal with issues, and you feel better afterwards, great, and I wouldn't give two fricks what anyone else says.

When my best friend killed himself 4 years ago, I went to a therapist. Ended up seeing her twice a month for a year and a half. I didn't need any medication, it's just really good to talk about stuff to someone who doesn't have an agenda or a biased opinion.

Therapists can't prescribe medication, you need to see a psychiatrist for that.

I just reread my response. If you're going to a therapist to talk some stuff out and actually get it out/discuss, that's cool. Same situation though, I've been to therapists, my friends have been to therapists, I've heard stories about therapists...and I've never known a single person that was cured of anything by a therapist. Most of those relationships end by the patient just not setting appointments.
Try the meditation thing, it's worked wonders for me. I promise. I gave it a real shot for a month on a suggestion from someone, I did it on my bed with instructions printed out from a website, and I still continue once a week.
My life has been considerably better, and it was pretty fricked when I started.
I'd just avoid the drugs.

well yeah I agree that therapist can't cure anything. Especially something mental, only you can do that. Where I find the benefit in therapy is helping determine what the underlying problem and helping you work through how to deal with it.

I promise yall I am not mentally unstable. I was just surprised how common it is to see someone. I thought it was only for crazy people and people with disorders but I realized I was wrong.

I was just busting your chops btw. It is common. A lot of people I know have talked to someone at one time or another and it's helped them. I could've used someone to talk to during middle school probably but we all have our own ways of dealing with things. Do what works for you my man

Everyone is fricked up. Every single person in this world is fricked up, even the ones that don't seem like they are. Every. Single. Person.
Know yourself, figure out how not to feel fricked up and you're ahead of 95% of the people int he world. That's it, at least in my experience.

I agree, it's common, a lot of people call them pastors in their particular scenarios, but the reason is the same.
