The Death Penalty and how it affects conferences

I will not discuss any current allegations but they have brought some questions to mind. I really hope we can discuss this without calling out any schools except SMU and any other programs that have actually received the death penalty in any sport(for historical references). So I have questions about TV contracts, revenue and scheduling. IF a team got the death penalty, how would it affect conference TV contracts? Is there a clause in it for such a circumstance? Would the penalized school receive any, even a very small slice of conference revenue to help them get back together? Would the remaining conference schools split up the penalized schools share or would the conference bank it? Or would the network keep the share and give the conference less money during the years of the schools program being shut down? What about scheduling? A big conference can shuffle some conference games around and add another cross division game but what about smaller conferences that already play a round-robin? It would be hard to find a non-conference opponent on short notice. If conference schools could not find an opponent on short notice, would the NCAA grant waivers for them to only play 11 games and be bowl eligible at 5-6?

No team will ever get the death penalty again partially because of the issues you're raising.

The business is way too big for the NCAA to give the death penalty to a big conference school again.
I think the Penn State thing is as close as we ever get.

A better punishment is for the NCAA to:
1. Take away 10 scholarships per year for 5 years
2. Cut the number of player contacts and visits by half during the same 5 years
3. No bowl games for 5 years
4. No sharing in conference or TV revenue during the probation period
5. Cut the coaching staff in half for 5 years
6. Make them play on TV every week
