Little Rock would make more sense geographically. I believe the two final towns in the running for the university were Fay and Batesville. Little Rock didn't seem to try very hard to get UofA.

Oxford really is perfect for Ole Miss but if we were going to have one big university for the state, it would have to be in Jackson.

I agree. Arkansas should have been in LR.

Now many of the Ole Miss posters will probably disagree with me but if I had my choice to where Ole Miss could have been I'd choose one of the areas marked here by the red dots and white arrows
I think it would be really cool to see what that area as well as the University would have grown up as if it had been located at or on Pickwick Lake.
I think the land in that part of the state is beautiful and it would been awesome to have the river right there at your doorstep so to speak. Also having the university help draw and fund people people coming to the area could have really blown this part of the state up IMO.
Essentially you'd have Oxford on the lake it would be awesome.

I would stay put. We are really close to Houston without being sucked into it, and a shortish drive from Dallas.
Other people would want our spot if anything.

You could say this for probably a majority of college towns.

It's happening. Slowly, but it's happening.

No ghettos in College Station

Umm, can't think of any other place in MS that comes close to Oxford. I can think of a few places outside of the State, but I'm not exactly eager to move the city of Oxford.

Where is there a ghetto right off of campus? Oxford doesn't really even have a ghetto.

OK, if you could somehow move Oxford to right there (the peninsula dot), it would be awesome.

I think the one spot for the new land-grant institution referred to as Mississippi State was going to be Meridian which was the largest city in MS for a long time. However, the powers that be decided the new college should be away from a large city so students could focus on studies better.
At least that's one story I've seen posted before.
