Having surgery this week and will be out for a couple months so maybe I'll have some time to dig around and give a little back to the good folks of the board by keeping things updated on recruiting etc when I'm not zoned out on something ending in condone or contin.

So, is the surgery your last resort or the absolutely best option? I'm sure you've thought this through, but I've seen a lot of people who have had back surgery and the majority regret it. I hope you've exhausted all your options such as chiro, accupuncture, massage, stretching(you'd be amazed how much of a difference it makes), exercise, etc. That being said, good luck. I don't envy you.

Done everything from stretching and epidural injections to prayer therapy. My L5 is completely broken away fro. My sacrum and moves around about 3-4 cm and that coupled with a narrow alley for the nerves is bad news. I've been dealing with severe to excruciating pain for almost a year while still working (too proud for a handout line) and its time to let'em cut. I opted for a procedure to open the alley for the nerves and shave a Bulger down vs a full on fusion to cut recovery time down. After the surgery I just have to lose about 40 more#'s (already dropped 55) and start hitting the gym like I did when I was an athlete to gain back strength and I'll be fit as a fiddle by summertime. Thanks for the thoughts fellas!

I hope everything goes well for you. I've been dealing with my back for sevarl years now. L-1 through L-5 stenosis with 4 bulging discs. So far, the epidurals have helped but I know it's not the cure. I'll be 57 in April and I'm hoping to hold off surgery for a while. Again...good luck!

OT back surgery

For a second, I thought we had an Offensive Tackle having back surgery.

Good luck and God bless, Ruckus.

PS: Do you ride a scooter (a Ruckus, perhaps)?

Nah, no scooter, the handle is how I got into needing back surgery @ 32yo . I've always been right in the middle of any goodtimin trouble I could stick my nose in.

Here, here. There's always a price to be paid. At least you're still breathin'!

Did your back problems begin with you saying, "Hey y'all, watch this?"

Uuuh no....but you're real close! I was helping my dad frame a house in 98 and lifted a gable truss(350 or so lbs.) the wrong way and that's how it started. since then its been a slow nose dive and I played a little semi pro ball a few years back and when 3 or 4 o lineman got hurt I (a fullback by trade) volunteered to play guard. I was informed I needed to put on about 60 lbs due to being too small for the position and that just compounded things because we all know how easy it is to lose that weight again right?

I had lumbar fusion in 2008. L4-5 crumbled like a cookie during surgery, so I now have 2 rods, 6 screws and 2 spacers. No fun, but did help..I heard the procedure is a little different now. Good luck to ya Ruckus.

No not fusing yet, I opted for less evasive and they will be shearing off some disc in a couple of spots and basically dremel tooling the L5 so the nerves pass through without all the rubbing. Its a weird feeling when your leg feels like its being stabbed and hot dipped but you can't physically see anything, ya know?

I was suppose to get kinda same treatment, however, woke up with the fusion. Best of luck to ya.
