AJ McCarron is probably the most "pro ready" quarterback Alabama has had since Richard Todd. He's tough, he's got a good arm, and he's accurate. What's more is that he's smart. He rarely makes a stupid decision with the football.
All that being said….I still think Murray goes before him.

Even though Russell Wilson his disproved the height stereotype, I still think it will hurt Murray. All things considered, he and AJ are about equally talented throwing the football, but AJ is a good bit taller and is smarter with the football. He's also proven time and again he can show up and win big games

As a Bama fan, I like AJ. A lot. But I'm not convinced he has all the pro tools in his arsenal.
Arm strength? I wish I had a nickel for every Amari Cooper route adjustment to catch long balls this season. He just doesn't have the the zip needed in my mind (I'd like to see a legitimate pass/route comparison with AJ and Brodie Croyle).
Maybe it's just me, I'm no pro scout.

The game I think you are referring to is the Texas A&M game where he would have had sure touchdowns with Bell and Cooper had he put more touch on his throws. Keep in mind he had sustained a shoulder injury on his throwing arm just two weeks before when he played Mississippi State. That arm wasn't back to normal until the Iron Bowl and it wasn't 100% again until the Notre Dame game in January.

Fair enough, I know he has been hurt at times that the general public didn't much know about. Still, though, even at his best, I would prefer a bit more zip on the ball.
Again, I never was a QB even at the PeeWee level, so my opinion might be worthless. I've been told that before plenty of times.

The not for fun league will use their computers and tape measures and most likely take AJ over Murray. Murray is about 5'11 3/4" but has the armand release to deliver medium range passes. I dont know if either will be able to show NFL staffs a strong armed delivery on out routes of 20 yds from the opposite hash marks.

I don't think any of the guys listed in this thread will succeed in the NFL, but I bet Murray goes first unless AJ takes sizable step forward this year.

Murray because he's more "electric" imo.

I think AJ will be a much better NFL qb than people want to give him credit for. He reads defenses very well and checks down all the receivers. People give him shite for dumping it off to the running back, but he usually does it as a last resort and it usually ends up being a massive gain. Most importantly, he takes care of the football. Hard to argue with 46 touchdowns to 8 interceptions over two years as starter......

Question did you watch the BCS title game? AJ can make every throw in a playbook and against Notre Dame Kirk (who has seen AJ plenty before that) was impressed by several of this across the field throws.
So if there is not a throw AJ can't make and he is a winner then whats stopping him from being drafted? What usually gets one guy drafted before another is measurables. Wilson got picked where he did because the QB class sucked after the top tier. AJ isn't Namath but there have been a lot worse QBs drafted, signed, and started in the NFL the past few years. People drafting on eye popping spread stats is the biggest one. But AJ had the highest yards per attempt ratio, and the best TD to INT ratio, why would we keep throwing when we are up big though?

I think he is a great college QB, but I'm always wary of quarterbacks who play with tons of talent in college. I don't have any data to support this, but it seems like the a lot of great NFL QBs come from schools where they don't have a lot of talent around them.

Murray but I would take Teddy Bridgewater before both of them.

What has Mettenberger done that would warrant even a 3rd or 4th round pick at this point?
NFL scouts don't really care what they have done. They care about what they think he can become with better coaching. See the Glennon kid at NC State and the VaTech QB. Both are shitty college QB's but are being talked about as 1st round locks.
I think the SEC QB draft next year will look like this:
JFF
AJ
Tyler Russell
Mett
Murray

You mean quarterbacks like Joe Namath, Kenny Stabler, Dan Marino, Joe Montana, Peyton Manning, and Tom Brady? They had a lot of talent surrounding them when they took snaps from under center.
Obviously I'm not trying to compare McCarron to those listed above, but just because a QB plays on a talented team it doesn't automatically make him overrated.
