Mark Turgeon - what a shitty coach

I mean he clearly doesn't know what he's doing against #2 Duke...

I wish we could've kept him but I understand why he wanted to coach at a basketball school.

I do too. I'm directing this at people who think Billy Kennedy is "cleaning up Turgeon's mess".
Anyone seriously think that Turgeon couldn't have made the dance with this team?

Turgeon left us high and dry. He did not want to be here. The only mess he left was bad timing.

Turge is a solid coach. He picked up with BCG left off and didn't miss a beat. However his team was trending the wrong way and his recruiting got worse. I doubt he makes the big dance last year. I think he could with the guys BK added though. BK gets credit for improving the roster, but he'd still not the coach Turge is.

Agreed, but he probably wouldn't have lost to Rice at home, nor would he have lost 4 players in 2 seasons to transfer/quitting. He would have at least made the NIT last year.

Wait wait, I thought winning one big game didn't matter? At least that's what you've said about BK. Maryland is still 7th in the ACC and ill assume Turg bitched about attendance afterwards.

Turgeon's having kind of a rough year but the ACC is a much better basketball conference than the SEC. 6-6 in the ACC with wins over Duke and NC State is pretty damn respectable. They'll probably still be a tournament team too whereas we'll in the NIT.

Turgeon just beat the #2 team in the country. Billy Kennedy's signature win is a road win over a team likely not to make the NCAA tournament.
Shouldn't you be celebrating our "easy win" over Vanderbilt?

To be fair, Kentucky was on the bubble before losing Noel. All bets are off now.
Otherwise agreed. Mizzou's technically his highest RPI win but Kentucky has a better record and would probably continue to with Noel.

What do you expect from someone who was insistent that the following would happen?
Anyone who has watched our team this year saw the loss to Vanderbilt coming, especially after what they did to Arkansas in Nashville.
quote:
Kentucky - win (didn't lose there, not going to lose at home)
quote:
at Georgia - win (fluke loss at home)

at Vanderbilt - easy win

I also thought we'd lose to Ole Miss originally, so it all evens out. BK is a top 3 coach in the SEC easy, you just can't admit it.

You're kidding, right? He's behind Donovan, Calipari, Martin, Stallings, and Haith at the least. And judging from his record he's also worse than Mark Fox, Anthony Grant and Johnny Jones.

Don't forget Cuonzo Martin as well.
You have gotten every single game wrong since the Mississippi State game. You picked Kentucky, Georgia, and Vanderbilt as obvious wins. 3 losses and 2 wins does NOT even out.

Still waiting for the evidence that we're moving in the right direction...that year 3 isn't going to be the exact same bullshite as years 1 and 2.
There's simply no defending the fact that Kennedy has now lost SEVEN TIMES in two seasons to teams outside the top 100 in the Pomeroy ratings. Gillispie and Turgeon combined for zero losses to teams outside the top 100 in those ratings.

Turge was an outstanding X's and O's coach without question but also the wrong hire for us. Hiring coaches that resent us being a football school and are going to bail as soon as they are offered a better gig is bad for the program. You can't build like that. He also made going to watch his team feel like an obligation.
I'm not sold on BK but the team IS better this year than last year and in all likelihood he is getting a 3rd year. Will the new talent coming in along with the maturation of the young guys be enough to make a big step forward? I hope so but realistically its hard to say and there is reason to doubt it.
I do know that I don't miss Turge at all. What an awkward fit that guy was. I also know that in a year or two we will be able to money whip any coach we want but right now that would be difficult.
