So Did Arky Get it Right, and Tenn Got it Wrong?

Arky and Tenn basically handled the problem of losing a coach late in the hiring cycle completely differently.

Arky gets a temp guy, who screws up badly, but the screwup is limited and the position wasn't damaged so now they have a real coach and hope for the future.

Tenn outright hires a guy who was like their eighth choice, who screws up badly, wastes a few years, and then makes the job that much less desirable when he leaves so Tenn can't get a real coach.

Given these examples can we now clearly say that if your SEC team loses their coach at a bad time that a temp coach is the best option?

Kentucky didn't do too bad firing Joker during the season but allowing him to coach out while conducting their search.

It all depends on the program and the situation IMO.

Kentucky hired a coordinator, any school could do that at any time.

Arkansas could have done that and fired him instead of hiring JLS.

Meh. Stoops has already netted one of the best recruiting classes Kentucky has had in a few decades as a former coordinator. It's all about the fit and he's just about perfect for Kentucky. I don't know that everyone else who hired who coaches in a pinch can say that.

imo arky handled it right, sacrifice one year and then bounce back.

of course situation was a bit different than ut considering lane left on his own instead of being fired.

LSU was in that position with oc when krags got sick and i thought the promoting from within was the right move in 2011 but where we messed up was not fixing it after 21-0. In the end though it appears to have only cost us one year

To be determined imo.

To be determined imo.

No conclusions to be drawn for a couple of years.

As hard as it was to watch, looking back it was the right thing to do. We sacrificed one year and got a good coach who went out and hired an excellent staff.

The fans wouldn't have accepted a coordinator or has-been and I think Jeff Long knew that so he did what he had to do to wait it out and get a real coach.

This. Last year was miserable to watch but I'm a huge fan of where we are at now with this new staff compared to the options that were being thrown around last April.

Tenn's current coach has a roughly equivalent resume to your coach's when you hired him but you classify Butch as not being able to get a "real coach?"

I see you are using the term roughly very loosely

Arkansas with Petrino and Tennessee with Kiffin leaving are two entirely different scenarios. Congrats on not being able to tell the difference though.

And after looking it up real quick, when I say "roughly equivalent" resume, I mean Butch's is better.

Florida did a bang up job on their hire as well. I mean, who says no to Florida?! Sorry you had to get a coordinator.

UT will at least get back to a mediocre level with Butch which is better than the out right suckage that has plagued them the last couple years. If I were a UT fan my priorities would quickly get in order seeing that being a powerhouse in football is a thing of the past. Kind of sad really.

Always so defensive. I was meh with Boom as well.

Honestly, I'm not 100% convinced that he will win a national championship at UF. That's the goal. We aren't happy with 3 in the East like some teams.

4-4 conference record in 2012.

Sanduskied Penn State had 6-2 conference record for christ's sake. there were 5 B1G teams with better conference record than Wisconsin.
