2015 4* DB Minkah Fitzpatrick is also coming.
He's coming from NJ, big time CB prospect, we lead.

OK... new recruiting angle...
With our class now 5-6 spots away from being full, do we go from whining about the lack of commits to the fear of not having room for the top prospects we would like?
I know that the guys we have left (Stanley, Scott, Wideman, Lamin etc.) are big targets for the coaches, and that's great, but what if we have the season which we're hoping for? If we do the "impossible" and run the table and bring home our first championships (SEC and National), wouldn't this garner more interest from some of the pipe dream prospects that we were also recruiting?
This would change things kind of drastically. We'd go from a perennial also ran to a place where anything is possible. Top ten guys (like Humphrey, Hand, Carter, Prince and Robinson) who showed some interest in us before without the prestige that a title would give. I know these guys are "over sign" guys, but that is when your talking about one or two... not five or more.
I know these are "white people problems" that wouldn't really be anything to cry about, but it's the offseason and we have another month to go... so just wondering what you guys thought?

I don't believe so. We knew coming into this cycle that we were taking around 15 guys. Some of the guys higher on our board have already committed, and that's great.
There are still many guys high up on our board that might commit as well, and there are other guys who may seem out of the picture now (like a Lorenzo Carter) but even if we had 16 guys committed and he wanted to as well, we would make room.

It might help sway some '14 guys, but not a lot. Many of these guys already know where the want to go, but they'll hold out until National Signing Day to keep their rankings "up," or b/c they like the spotlight. (Of course some guys do need all that time to decide as well.)
I think IF that situation happened, it would have a bigger impact on the '15 cycle and the subsequent ones.

Welp. Dexter Wideman just committed to FSU out of the blue...totally left-field this came from....
Posted on 7/23/13 at 12:05 am to ConwayGamecock
Weird, we've led for so long. Then again that whole Poona thing was crazy and Wideman's academics weren't locked up yet. However, I saw recently that the academic situation was improving. If we get him here to Black Magic still, I think we can sway him.
Posted on 7/23/13 at 12:27 am to CockInYourEar
That is really odd. Although, with the current development of the 2015 class and if those boys who are are already committed stick with it, I won't be so sore about losing Wideman.

Kaleb Chalmers, a 4* DB from SC for the 2015 class has been thought of a clempson lean for a while b/c he's from Greenwood. Only problem (for the taters) is now he's going around and telling people that he actually grew up a USC fan and wants to continue the legacy of Greenwood DB's at USC. He might actually commit at Black Magic (I'm not an insider and don't know the guy personally, I'm just writing what I've read.)
He doesn't have a committable offer at this point, but that might change if he does well at the camp.

2015 is shaping up to be a ridiculous class
Posted on 7/23/13 at 9:45 am to atlgamecockman
That's what I think as well. We might have a better class than the '07 class.

Definitely agree. Hopefully we can seal up some serious offensive threats to go along with the already monster D pickups. USC is about to be really, really good and I love it.

Also, Wideman is still coming to the Black Magic camp (awesome name), so his recruitment is nowhere near over, especially if he has improved in the classroom. I'm sure the coaching staff will sweet talk the hell out of him at Black Magic. He is a real talent and would do well in our defense.

I am a little befuddled why that class is happening so early. Even assuming Spurrier stays through 2017 that means most of these kids would only get one good starting season under him (figuring in RS years for most). Is he telling them that he would be here longer, or showing them where the program will go when he does hang it up?
I hope that we are preaching the direction this program is going instead of the man at the helm, but that should be in their heads somewhere.

Probably has something to do with back to back 11-win seasons. And of course they know HBC won't be there forever, but people see that Carolina is a program on the rise and that we won't dip again for a good while.
Plus having hugely high-profile players helps as well. (Clowney, Lattimore, etc)

I think part of it has to do with the 14 class having limited spots. Instead of over recruiting the targets this class hey spent some of their extra time on the guys in the 15 class.
Really surprised that Wideman committed to FSU but if he's still coming to the Black Magic camp I'm not too concerned.

Yep I have been tempted to start a 2015 recruiting thread with all the activity lol...but didn't want it to take attention away from the '14 class, and we still have loads of time to wait on the '15 cycle. But it is unprecedented not only in the early commits but in how they are all highly rated prospects thus far.
Even as good as the '07 class was, it didn't start out as good as the '15 is: sure, we got Gary Gray and Quinton Richardson's commits early on, but then Addison Williams was Commit #3 and he was a 3*. Maddox was #4 and a 4*, but then Michael Bowman was #5 and he was a low 3*. If Chalmers, DB Minka Fitzpatrick, DB Mark Fields, OL Mason Veal, LB Sherrod Pittman, OL Zack Bailey also join the class among others it will be a beast.....

Hearing that Berrios may consider not coming to Black Magic. If true, I say we move on. I realize the potential he has, and the skill set that smaller, faster receivers have to offer, but I like conventional WRs more. Give his spot to someone with the same speed but who has 4 more inches and 20 more pounds.
