There's a lot to consider here that doesn't translate to paper (injuries, coaching changes, juco transfers, early declaration for draft, etc) but thought it was interesting to take a site like Rivals and see where the recruiting class was ranked and where they finished in the AP 4 years later. Based off how the 2008-2011 and 2009-2012 years turned out I'm looking forward to the next 3 years.

Does this prove that Chizik really did win with Tuberville's recruits?

Right on, two top 10 AP finishes without being in the top 10 for recruiting. Go Gamecocks!

What I get from this: Recruiting Rankings are relatively accurate, but not an exact science. Top 10 recruiting classes are all pretty much equivalent.

Ehhh. If you can't develop those players then it doesn't matter what you're rank is. I think that is the way you should look at that list.

Schedule strength has almost as much to do with Final AP Rankings as Recruiting Rankings do. Yes, there are teams that end up in the Final AP Top Ten with low recruiting rankings, but when you look at their schedule it is full of teams with even lower recruiting rankings than theirs. Take Boise State, for example, the overwhelming majority of teams they play have lower ranked classes than they do. So, basically, they are simply beating up less talented teams than theirs, but spring an upset and get ranked high.
Here's a few Facts:
No team has won a BCS National Championship without at least 2 Top Ten Recruiting classes in the 5 years leading up to their National Championship.
Alabama, Florida, LSU, Georgia, and Auburn Recruit the best in the SEC, Year in and Year out since 2000. Those 5 schools are the only schools to win the SEC Championship since 2000.
Alabama has had the #1 Recruiting Class in the Nation 4 of the last 5 Years. Alabama has won the National Championship 3 out of the last 4 years.
You must recruit the best in order to be the best.

I have heard on a sports talk show that about only half of the schools with top 25 recruiting rankings end up in the top 25 football rankings. Don't know if true. Just what I heard.

Chizik won with Newton and Fairley. Thought that was pretty obvious.

It's a good point. It would be interesting to see how some "overachievers" fare in a study based on their performance not in AP Polls but in wins and winning % against teams with equal or better recruiting rankings.

All of the o-linemen on the 2010 Auburn team were recruited by Tuberville and their o-line played a huge role in Auburn winning a national championship that year so the answer has to be yes.

Thanks for your indepth intelligent analysis.
Google the rankings moron. Espn has the AP rankings on their website also. Georgia listed as 5 and A&M as 5 but in the order listed they are behind Georgia. Congrats on tying for #5. No one cares.
