Anyone go to the Cotton Bowl?

That had been anti-Jerry World in the past, and changed their tune?
I was stuck in the oil field and couldn't go. But I heard the stadium atmosphere was awesome, especially swaying around the whole bowl. I know there is a lot of anti-Jerry World sentiment among Aggies(damn Houstonites always be hatin on Big D), anyone changed their tune?

I think it's mostly pissed off old cowboys fans that hate.
I was there. It's extremely nice but still has its flaws. The standing room experience wasn't as good as I expected. For a place that can handle 20k SRO there wasn't much room to watch the game.

It's the screen. With it hanging over the middle of the field it becomes too distracting. I don't mind big screens, but it would be better in the end zone.

Been to every Aggie game in the Death Star and this was my fav (Big Surprise!)
I don't hate it per se but it seems like everything is double priced. This time I sat in the 2nd deck above the band and I liked it because even though the angle view wasn't ideal it wasn't bad and the monster screen wasn't right in front of me. The worst for me is sitting up high and in the middle there because you end up watching the whole game on the screen and thinking about how much more beer you could have bought watching it on your big screen at home. Of course lower bowl seats between the yardlines are really nice but stupid expensive.

I went and loved it, sat right behind the parent section so the screen didn't really effect my view.

Didn't go to this past Cotton Bowl, but went in 2011 against LSU.
I actually liked the screen a lot. Spent more time watching the field, though. I'm not easily distracted, I guess

Was there; sat up in the endzone in the 400s. View lines were like upper deck Zone at Kyle.
I think Jerry's World is spectacular -- but then again I grew up watching pro football in the Astrodome...

My complaints lie with its location so those won't change. I like the actual stadium and will still be attending our Arkansas game there

How was the environment in comparison to other events? Has your opinion on playing one game every year there in a trade off for one game every other at Kyle changed at all? Are you anti-pig series there?
When Bama announced it was returning to Jerry World soon, it made me extra happy that we will be permanent residents of that stadium.

Same question as above.

The environment was better for me because of the outcome. I'm not thrilled about a game there every year but I'm more enthusiastic about it than before. That has more to do with the direction our program is headed though and not just that specific game.

I had never been to Jerry World before this year's Cotton Bowl, so I have the perspective of only having watched one game. It helped that the stadium crowd was 60-65% A&M. Having said that, it is the sterile environment that a majority of our fan base complains about. The parking left a little to be desired: nearby parking was at a premium unless you hiked from afar. The line to get inside was ridiculous. Concession prices are nuts and I had to spend $50 on beer before I could catch a buzz.
I sat in Section 409 (same as my area code), which was in the Oklahoma section. Sitting in the Land Thieves' section was made thoroughly enjoyable after the SEC chants started. The large TV screens wasn't as big a problem as some have suggested. I just made it a point to focus on the field and I ended glancing at the screen to watch a play live just once.
Much like the la Tech game, I didn't want to hear Psy or House of Pain at the stadium. I may have listened to them a million times, but I found myself wanting to hear the FTAB (or hell, the Okie band for that matter) instead of the music being piped in. It's not the worst venue in the world, but Jerry World just doesn't do it for me. It doesn't come close to the gameday experience that Kyle Field delivers.
Oh, and for TeLeFaWx:
Houston > Dallas

Good. I am glad.

also, y'all have to remember, the Arky/A&M has not been sold out once by either side. There are always thousands of empty seats. That really hurts the atmosphere a ton.
People just don't want to pay bowl prices for a regular season game.

It was never an 'SEC' game before. The atmosphere will change. Swamp kittens (primarily) will be everywhere. Also the gumps. And the yankee kittens (Mizzou). And the rest of em in tow. Trust me. The demographics are there.

So did why Alabama just announce a second game?
Posted on 1/13/13 at 4:18 am to TeLeFaWx
Bama is playing there again for exposure and recruiting. Jerry is also giving them $$$.
I'm talking about A&M and Arky fans for a regular season game when I say people don't want to get gouged by Jerry.
here is how our combined fan bases feel about regular season games there.
2009 - 71,872
2010 - 65,622
2011 - 69,838
There isn't going to be a sudden rush of other SEC fans that show up either. If that were the case they would have already shown up to the first three games. The only thing that'll help attendance is to drastically reduce the prices for tickets and that's unlikely to happen.

I think the real issue for the Arkie games isn't the ticket prices per se, it's you have the ticket prices PLUS all the other costs of parking and vending jacked up for a regular season game. It feels different for a bowl game than a regular season game. I enjoyed the 2 Cotton Bowls I've been to there a lot more than the Arkie games because with a bowl it feels a lot more special and thus you don't mind as much all the price gouging.
For Bama it is also different because they are still just playing a game at a time there, not signed up for a long term deal. Jerryworld definitely loses its charm after a while. For them it is still an "exhibition" type environment.
