I'm sure he wouldn't say anything like that "just to mess with people", but a lot can change in 12 months. I mean, if the guy is unquestionably the #1 overall draft pick, chances are probably low he would return.
Matt Stafford took advantage of Athens like that city has rarely ever seen so I'm sure he'd have loved to come back for his senior year, but I mean when you're getting multimillions thrown at you guaranteed just for signing your name it's a pretty tempting move.
